Tax the rich more AND cut spending?

Yes or no?

Why/why not?

No. We need to cut spending.

Everyone should be equal in the taxes they pay. One group of people should not be paying a higher or lower percentage of their income because of their success or lack thereof. The law should treat all individuals equally instead of dividing them into groups.

If you want to create a flat tax that applies to every individuals equally and eliminate the loopsholes. Then maybe we can talk about raising taxes. But until you guys support revamping the tax system so that everyone is equal, we shouldn't be discussing any sort of raise in taxes.

We already tax the rich.

What we need to do is follow the recommendations of Obama's deficit commission. We need to reform the tax code and remove the loopholes, expand the tax base, and cut spending.

What you're talking about isn't "equal"

a 10 percent tax on a man that makes 100 bucks is felt much more than a 10 percent tax on a man that makes a 1000.

Living expenses remain fairly standard.

Actually, it's the very definition of equal. Everyone is treated the same.

You just don't like it because you cant demonize the rich then.

Then how are most people going to be able to afford a living if you are taxing them on money they don't have. You put the burden on the people that have the greater ability to pay. The Progressive tax system has worked and will always work. Get over it.

Yes. Rich need to be taxed 50% with a $500,000 limit on itemized deduction and cut defense spending by 30%.

So you're saying that the rich should pay much more taxes? "One group of people should not be paying a higher or lower percentage of their income."

If you look at all the taxes... property tax, sales tax, etc., the rich pay a smaller portion of their income in taxes.

Now that you've found out that your opinion actually supports the opposite policy that you were advocating, feel free to change your opinion. It will be fun to watch.

Fuck the rich. I'll demonize them all I want. They are demons. Blood sucking parasites. They're only out for their own good. They're organized and acting in concert to make sure that they get more and more and more wealth all the time at the expense of everyone else. But it's only called class war when the poor fight back.

Fuck the rich.

That sounds more like government employees and welfare tics.

By working hard like the rest of us and cutting back on their wants to support their needs, like the rest of us.

The progressive tax system is designed to treat people different and divide us on the basis of how much money we have. It's bullcrap. Everyone has a responsibility to support this nation the way they can. The Rich will be paying more because they are making more money. The poor will be paying less because they are making less money. Everyone will be paying the same percentage and will thus be equal.

At one point we believed that all men are created equal. Perhaps it would be wise that we start acting like it instead of this constant attack of our brethren simply because they make more or less money than someone else.

You're either a rich spoiled brat who has never worked a day in his life or are just a pawn for the rich.

Either way, you honestly don't understand how our economy works. Our economy is CONSUMER DRIVEN. That means people are spending money on products. Shocking I know.

The point is that just because rich people get a tax break doesn't mean they will create jobs because THEY DON'T CREATE JOBS WITHOUT DEMAND. You know who creates demand? Consumers. So if they get more money back, they spend it. They create demand and they create jobs.

I know, critical thinking is hard. You should try it.

So people can't spend money on products if they are taxed equally?

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

What's the big deal about letting the Bush tax cuts expire? That was the plan then, so stick with the plan now.

What's the sense in passing laws if they're constantly recinded and/or amended?

There's just no consistency from one administration to the next.

"All men are created equal." I believe that line was penned right before a bunch of white land owning men sat down to decide exactly what portion of a human being a black slave would be considered, for congressional representation.

"All men created equal" has always been in the future. A goal to be reached for. We've come a long way in the last 400 years. But some people seem to think that we started off with liberty and at some point someone took it away.

Instead of just insulting concepts that you don't understand, please try and think about them for a little bit.

You favor supply-side stimulus. Your idea is that by giving more wealth to the investment class, they will use that wealth to create jobs. Fine, let's try it. OK, we just did. That was the last 30 years. The wealthy have more wealth than ever. Now, how long do we have to wait until they start using it to create jobs? Hmmmm...

Now, there's also a demand side of the economy. In order for business to happen, it must have start-up capital. But it must also have customers. Investors will only start a business if they can expect to find a customer. And what creates customers? Wealth in the hands of the not-investment class.

Still sound like the dumbest idea you've ever heard?

Fuck the rich, I just want to tax the "great vampire squid wrapped around the face of humanity, relentlessly jamming its blood funnel into anything that smells like money."

Now, if the rich are riding with the squid, they can expect some blowback.

Just don't keep your wallet in your back pocket. You don't want that blood funnel scratching around back there.

It seriously helps if you actually read what write instead of going off on straw men.

Treating people as equals will not stop people from purchasing goods and services.

There are no rich or poor. There are only people. And the government should be treating them as such rather than dividing them so our "representatives" can win elections.
