Do Republicans understand there's a problem?

After hearing GOP Rep Steve King explain how he is an expert in foreign economics because he had a job and raised a family, it occurs to me Republicans are fighting this because they don't understand the situation. And I thought they were trying to bring down the country.

Is that what the problem is? Republicans just don't "understand"?
