Do Republicans regret their Iraq fiasco?

Only a complete idiot would announce to the public the exact troop removal date,

Your idiot is Bush 43. Obama called it correctly before the invasion was launched. He opposed invading Iraq as it was to be a dumb war.

If that were true, exactly WHY do we find the UN weapons inspectors unable to do a complete inspection during the entire EIGHT years of the Clinton presidency?

Did we forget about the oil for food bribe that the United Nations was entangled with, and how specific countries with veto power (France and Russia) was specifically profiting from Saddam .... as not one resolution was enforced? My how we so easily forget the corruption surrounding the United Nations, and how President Clinton really didn't do a thing.

ou missed my point entirely, you can make "plans" to withdrawal your troops there is nothing wrong with that. However, President Bush never used that as a public campaign promise that announces and INFORMS to its enemies it's plans of withdrawal.

Bush made that binding SOFA deal to withdraw all troops by a date certain during the final month of his presidency. It was not just 'making plans' -.it was a formal binding agreement that fixed a legal date for all troops to be out if Iraq. Of course Bush did not use it as a campaign promise. He never campaigned again. And of course he was embarrassed by Maliki and Muqtada al Sadr, who forced Bush to surrender to a three year deal and absolutely no permanent bases like he wanted.

The point is that Bush conceded to exact dates for troop withdrawal and every enemy of the Iraq government knew exactly what that date was. What Obama said in 2008 meant nothing compared to what the actual president said and did at the end of his destruction of Iraq for five years.

Those enemies insurgents looking to reclaim Iraq as an extremist foothold in the region, did NOT know the exact date as Bush never "advertised" it like Obama had. Of course if you like to prove me wrong, you are welcome to provide me a video clip of President Bush making that announcement concerning precisely when the last of US troop would withdrawal. However, I have serious doubts you can.

The drama unfolded shortly after Mr. Bush appeared at a news conference in Baghdad with Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki to highlight the newly adopted security agreement between the United States and Iraq. The agreement includes a commitment to withdraw all American forces by the end of 2011.

That's easy. It was the day the shoes missed hitting the idiot president in the face:

"
PRESIDENT BUSH: First of all, we're here at the Iraqi -- at the request of the Iraqi government. It's an elected government. There are certain benchmarks that will be met -- such as troops out of the cities by June of '09. And then there's a benchmark at the end of the agreement."

That's easy. Prior to September 2001 when Bush allowed OBL to kill 3000 Americans and other nationals on American soil Saddam Hussein would not cooperate or allow the inspectors to go where they needed to go. So Clinton bombed the suspected sites. Then both Colin Powell came into office with Bush telling us that SH was militarily contained and not a threat.

After 9/11 SH began saying he had no WMD and would cooperate with the inspectors. Then the UN Security unanimously passed Resolution 1441 which laid out tougher inspections and those inspection were in progress (about three months from finishing) when Bush decided entirely on his own to shut the inspections down and invade and occupy Iraq instead. Like Obama said in advance of Bush's dumb war he is not opposed to war just opposed to starting a dumb war which Iraq was.

Also in December 2002 SH offered Bush to let the CIA come in and work with the UN inspectors. In 1998 SH kicked the UN inspectors out because he said they were agents of the CIA.

See the difference?

President Clinton bombed a pharasutical site with cruise missiles which "coincedentilly" happened right when Minica Lewinski gained headlines. That still doesn't change the fact the United Nations, to include countries like France and Russia were profiting in the oil for food scandal with Saddam. President Clinton never resolved the problem of weapons inspectors ability to go into Iraq and completing their role of making sure Saddam was in compliance. You haven't proved the United Nations were any further along with enforcing Iraq's compliance since President Clinton took office. Hell, Clinton saw numerous terrorist attacks that occurred during his administration that he never did anything about. Who are you kidding?
