In 1835, Alexis de Tocqueville predicted the 2012 elections

Alexis de Tocqueville was a French historian who traveled the United States from 1832 to 1834. He was struck by the character of American life that knew no class structure and rewarded hard work as a means of achieving prosperity.

Without an aristocracy, American society promoted capitalism through individual achievement. The common man, he wrote, had achieved a level of personal dignity in America that was unparalleled in Europe or elsewhere.

A very interesting read @ Doug Ross @ Journal: DO REPUBLICANS REALLY NEED TO "MODERNIZE THE MESSAGE"? In 1835, Alexis de Tocqueville predicted the 2012 elections

It's interesting to read of the “dangers” of democracy. Probably why our Founders did NOT set up this nation as a democracy. :eusa_eh:

As long as they believe the earth is only a few thousands of years old, it won't work, what ever they do.

The "common man" is no longer all white. He is white, brown, black, or a combination of all three.
If republicans can't modernize the message it's going to be difficult adjusting to life in the USA or anywhere.

You can put a new engine in a Model T. But its still a Model T.

They need to drop religion and big Government, then elect an actual Conservative through their primaries and they have an easy chance to win.

You can't run on Small Government when you did one of the most Big Government Progressive liberal policies in the entire US as governor (Romneycare). You can't claim small Government then claim to support Government control on who is allowed to be married based off your religion.

This election cycle showed that there is a very real chance that Republicans will no longer win a GE being the Big, Religious, and Bigoted Government party.

The numbers are out, the Republican party is the fastest shrinking party in the US and in 4 years another meaningful % will die off.

Well, kind of...
