Do OWSers understand what they are calling for is tyranny?

we are not a democracy, we are a republic! This is the state of education today. We actually have people that think they are the same, or that we are a democracy.

With this level of ignorance we will never be able to preserve the republic.

prove it!

Democracies give no power to minorities. Are some of you really this stupid about basic civics in regard to how we were founded and what the founders intentions were? We're a republic. There is no mob rule in this country. At least not yet.

These people don't want to overthrow the government. They want jobs.

Besides, the right wing keeps saying government is bad. So who cares what right wingers say or think? They've been wrong about everything in the last 10 years anyway.

Remember the old axiom of 'being careful for what you wish for'? OWS crybabies had better let go of thier emotionalism lest they get something they didn't bargain for. A lesson the Germans failed to heed in the 1930's...

What lessons did you learn from Wall Street destroying the American economy with a $516 trillion dollar derivatives Ponzi scheme?

We are a Constitutional Republic. No matter how much you hate that, we are.

The terms "constitutional republic" and "democracy" are not mutually exclusive.

I know that. It is the morons like TruthMocker who don't get it. Having said that, we are a Republic. A true democracy is majority (or mob) rule. We do not have that, we have a Constitutional Republic - protecting minorities from mob rule.

Yep. And why there is such a process as the Electoral College that so many on the left want to see go away...:eusa_whistle:

Wait!

What?

So, suddenly wiki is wrong?

But... but.... but.... I thought you worshiped Wiki as a source.

That Members of Congress, and the Government are manipulative bastards that use thier positions for monetary gain that ordinary citizens would go to jail over as the Corporist/ Crony Capitalists that they are?:eusa_whistle:

Having said that, we are a Republic. A true democracy is majority (or mob) rule. We do not have that, we have a Constitutional Republic - protecting minorities from mob rule.

The terms "constitutional republic" and "democracy" are also not mutually exclusive. (In fact, the term "constitutional republic" is almost a redundancy; all republics are constitutional.)

A republic can be either democratic or aristocratic, or some mix of the two. Those who draw a false distinction between republic and democracy are revealing their support for aristocracy.

It is not lack of democracy that protects minorities, nor is "mob rule" the chief threat to their rights. As the behavior of Tsarist Russia or Nazi Germany towards the Jews demonstrates, a non-democratic government can be just as vicious towards minorities as a democracy, or even worse. What protects minorities is restraints on government persecution of minorities, backed by an independent judiciary. That is just as compatible with democracy as it is with non-democratic governments, and indeed more likely to exist in a democratic context.
