CDZ Do I have to allow you to post on my website?

No they are not the village square they are private property

A private venue is still a private venue no natter if it is unique or not and why is it unique anyway?

There are millions of places on the web where you can express yourself in a forum that others can read.

You think FAcebook and Twitter are unique because of the number of people posting don't you?

We're right back to the part where you are not guaranteed an audience

Facebook threatens Press saying: 'Work with us or end up in a hospice'

Australia?

Last time I checked our Constitution didn't apply in Australia

And FYI newspapers are not public utilities either

There are a lot of newspapers, and one publisher doesn't own the means by which they are delivered.

"Australia" = you acting dumb and pretending that it makes a difference.

The point is, FACEBOOK THREATENS PRESS and says that "it's our way or the highway"

Which is exactly what I'm saying. They own the public square, the have a monopoly.

And it's a worldwide monopoly.

It is not the public square if you want it to be then you will have to pay taxes to support it
If you want it to be a public utility then you will have to pay to use it

Facebook does not have the power to put any newspaper out of business nor can it tell newspapers what to print. Just because one corporate lackey shoots his mouth off is in no way proof of your claims

If Facebook was a monopoly I would have no choice but to use it and guess what I don't use it at all and I don't have to neither does anyone else.

:D :D :D

A cororate lackey? Lolol.."Campbell Brown, Facebook's global head of news partnerships"

Facebook threatens Press saying: 'Work with us or end up in a hospice'

So what? it's just some idiot talking smack and Facebook does not have the power to control any news outlet

You are delusional if you think it does

If the United States did pursue ant-trust against Facebook- which I am not entirely against- .

Of course you're not entirely against that. You're a liberal. Socialism is the goal. Trumpsters have no excuse.
My advice to people who have made untold riches off the American people..don't use your newfound wealth and power to silence us and overthrow our government.

The point is they acknowledge that facebook is the venue that they must use to succeed.

No one is silencing you as evidenced by the drivel you are posing on this topic

Facebook is not silencing anyone either

No it is not.

We are talking about an Australian newspaper here and just because some guy says that the paper will die doesn't mean it will

No one who gets all their news from Facebook is buying that paper anyway

You conveniently ignore the part about working to deny Americans their human and civil rights, and illegally conspiring to overthrow our government .

But that's okay.

Sigh- this is the CDZ so I will be polite.

I am a liberal- I believe government has a role in regulating business's- and I happen to know history- so I know why the trust busters went after the big trust/monopolies in the past.

Arguably Facebook is such a monopoly- but on the other hand- no one needs FB- it isn't steel or coal or the railroad. I think that there is a case to be made that FB should be investigated as to whether it should be classified as a monopoly. But how would you break up FB in such a way that it was not a monopoly?

And because I study economics- I don't believe in any kind of pure socialism- governments running business's is a recipe for disaster in general. So socialism is not my goal- now that I have cleared that up for you- I expect you to not lie about it in the future here in the CDZ- okay?

Wow- are you talking about Donald Trump before he became President?

Donald Trump uses both his threats of lawsuits- and NDA's to silence Americans- and now uses his bully pulpit to try to silence the press.

And before he was President he used the Birther idiocy to try to unseat a legally elected President.

But wait- you are okay when Contards do any of that stuff- just not anyone who is not on the right.

Trump works to deny Americans their human and civil rights with NDA.

Oh and if you have any evidence of anyone conspiring- legally or illegally(lol) to overthrow our government- please contact law enforcement. Otherwise people might suspect you are just making this crap up.

Facebook is not a monopoly
As I said:
Arguably Facebook is such a monopoly

I think it can be argued that it is- but I don't agree it is either.

But how would you break up FB in such a way that it was not a monopoly?
That is the real question in an anti-trust with FB. There really is no way to break up such a company because there is no real limitation on which one you use. People would just migrate to one or the other - not really set up competition.

Real competition from FB is not through breaking it up - it is through a new way of approaching social media. Myspace was basically the FB of its time. FB came along and now Myspace is a speck compared to them.

This is going to be some random thoughts on an issue I am riding the fence on. Generally I don't find modern life that different than that of Ptolemy's time so even with the internet I just draw on existing laws. This one has me though.

Assuming my website is not an absolute monopoly on something do I have to allow your posts?

If I own a bar I have to serve everyone, even Americans of German descent who can't prove they fought the fatherland in the great war. I don't have to let everyone have a microphone though.

If I own a business, lets say a church, I certainly don't have to let everyone speak. I probably have to let everyone in.

The town's square has to reasonably let everyone in and speak.

The internet sorta is public property, there are a lot of power cables and fibers laid across everyone's private property enabling me to have a website. Them posts are going on my server though.

Throw some more analogies at me from each point of view!

Yes.

Next question.

Think of the internet as sidewalks, streets and highways, websites as homes and businesses.
That is a great analogy.

Once you go into someone's home or business they can boot you out for any reason or no reason at all.
