"nevertheless, many people find it difficult to accept the ideas that judaism is not hereditary, but a religion, and that jews who abandon the jewish faith, whether they adopt another religion or none at all, are no longer jews."

that may be a conclusion that a biologist draws, but it does not determine the position of normative jewish law.

so ?...science is science.it can not just be trumped by normative jewish law
Science is science and DNA tests prove that Jews have a common gene that traces them back to Moses and Aaron's time.
Funny that people who don't believe scientific facts will believe in Global Warming and 72 skanky virgins.

Judaism and Islam are religions, not races.

The pointlessness of this kind of argument can be seen in the fact that people of any ethnicity can and often do convert to Judaism or Islam. Is a special gene inserted after conversion?

Not many…. Proper orthodox conversions are a hard thing, and people are not encouraged they are dissuaded to do so. Jews are a people, not a religion. Judaism is the religion, one does not haft to be a Jew to practice Judaism, nor does one have to practice Judaism to be a Jew

Do Ethiopian Jews have this gene?

Really? Because there are dozens and dozens of websites dedicated to encouraging, welcoming, and guiding would-be converts.

And are you saying that someone who converts to Judaism is not a Jew? Are such people looked down upon and discriminated against somehow?

So you act like you know what you're talking about right? I said proper conversion, not reform conversion, Conservative conversion ect.. Jewish law says people are to be dissuaded more than once. Kohanim are not allowed to marry converts but true converts are Jews and are accepted as such

And they also believe that Jews did 9-11. Pretty sick bunch I have to say.

So, does that mean that only Orthodox Jews are considered 'real' Jews? And what of these "true converts" and the gene thing?

Did you read what I posted? Orthodox converts are the only converts that are considered Jews they can immigrate to Israel (alyiah) non-orthodox converts are not true converts, and are no recognized as such what about the "gene thing" Jews are a people, not a true race, but most are genetically linked. People born Jews are Jews doesn't matter if they practice the religion or not.

But if you are born into a non-orthodox Jewish family you're not really Jewish?

It has been known for over a decade that a majority of men who self report as members of the Jewish priesthood (Cohanim) carry a characteristic Y chromosome haplotype termed the Cohen Modal Haplotype (CMH). The CMH has since been used to trace putative Jewish ancestral origins of various populations. However, the limited number of binary and STR Y chromosome markers used previously did not provide the phylogenetic resolution needed to infer the number of independent paternal lineages that are encompassed within the Cohanim or their coalescence times. Accordingly, we have genotyped 75 binary markers and 12 Y-STRs in a sample of 215 Cohanim from diverse Jewish communities, 1,575 Jewish men from across the range of the Jewish Diaspora, and 2,099 non-Jewish men from the Near East, Europe, Central Asia, and India. While Cohanim from diverse backgrounds carry a total of 21 Y chromosome haplogroups, 5 haplogroups account for 79.5% of Cohanim Y chromosomes. The most frequent Cohanim lineage (46.1%) is marked by the recently reported P58 T->C mutation, which is prevalent in the Near East. Based on genotypes at 12 Y-STRs, we identify an extended CMH on the J-P58* background that predominates in both Ashkenazi and non-Ashkenazi Cohanim and is remarkably absent in non-Jews. The estimated divergence time of this lineage based on 17 STRs is 3,190 ± 1,090 years. Notably, the second most frequent Cohanim lineage (J-M410*, 14.4%) contains an extended modal haplotype that is also limited to Ashkenazi and non-Ashkenazi Cohanim and is estimated to be 4.2 ± 1.3 ky old. These results support the hypothesis of a common origin of the CMH in the Near East well before the dispersion of the Jewish people into separate communities, and indicate that the majority of contemporary Jewish priests descend from a limited number of paternal lineages.

Extended Y chromosome haplotypes resolve multiple and unique lineages of the Jewish priesthood

So, if a woman who had converted to non-orthodox Judaism marries a non-Jew and then raises their child as a (non-orthodox) Jew, is he considered a 'real' Jew and allowed to emigrate from the US to Israel and all that?

this post does not support your assertion "Jews from all over the world share a gene that is EXCLUSIVE to Jews ONLY "

Sure it does, you're just too illiterate to comprehend it. Not your fault. Did you at least get an elementary school diploma?

You see, wasn't that hard now was it. Here you are looking like a total FOOL in a thread you started, with your YouTube garbagio.
