everywhere and nowhere
An investigator told how he found dismembered fingers near the quarters of an alleged rogue US army unit accused of killing Afghans for sport and taking trophies from the bodies.
The gruesome testimony came as a third US soldier faced a pre-trial hearing over the alleged killings — after which the rogue soldiers allegedly posed for photos with their victims — in southern Afghanistan earlier this year.
If proved in a full court martial, the crimes would be among the worst committed by US forces in Afghanistan, and could deal a blow to efforts to win over the support of ordinary Afghans in the war-torn country.

Its war guys. It may be classified as low a low intensity conflict but to the soldiers over there it is very high intensity. They are sent there to kill and that affects people differently. They are under constant threat of being killed or being thrust into battle. Due to the elusive nature of the war over there the frustration builds and sometimes for a few, it becomes a release for them to take “trophies”. This also happens over in our society on the streets, gangbanging and to a certain extent the tats some people have. Soldiers took “trophies” in WWII, Korea, Vietnam too but people looked the other way.

It is a repulsive act to us back here and many soldiers, yet it will always happen in the raw, intensity filled world of war.

Stop defending the indefensible. There is NO fucking excuses for such barbarism. War zone or not!

Who's defending them? This stuff happens and always will because the human mind is susceptible to pressure. Sure they need to be punished but they also need treatment. What do you think they will be like when they get out of prison if they are not treated? They may be moving next door to you.

I agree, they need to be punished but also definently need treatment. Like ZZZZ said, these guys will be released into society once they finish their sentence, I don't want these guys just put back onto the streets without help.

Rest your damn hammy!

They are sent to fight a war not to turn it into some sick assed murder spree.

Throw the book at these guys.

At least the USA and her allies do actually police their own, and punish those who are caught breaking the laws, even in a war zone.

Unfortunately our enemy has no laws to break.
