Did Ron Paul just say to Fix the GOP not go 3rd Party?...

He's right in the end. If a Third Party Candidate were to run in 2012 it would be a monumental disaster for the Republican Party. The Third Party Candidate to run would likely be a Conservative-leaning Candidate and that would only take votes away from the Republican Party Candidate. That would then only open the door to a massive Democratic Party Victory. The Socialists would just win too easily. So in the end it's that old "Lesser of two Evils" thing. The Republican Party just needs to unite and start listening to real Conservatives like Dr. Paul more often. This can be done. It's just going to take a lot of work. Dr. Paul definitely nailed this one.

What he actually said is that there's no point to running in a third party as the Democrat and Republican duopoly makes it all but impossible for a third party to do anything substantial.

Aawww...don't go destroying his good feeling of trying to justify his GOP whoredom.

You mean the fact that Ron Paul is at the end of the day a politician?

I mean why not run third party for his own seat? Is it maybe because he cares more about keeping his seat than making a statement? :eusa_whistle:

Good point...

But maybe he ALSO wants to try to be what the GOP used to be, at the same time...an anti-aggressive foreign policy and limited government party.

was it james madison or thomas jefferson who said the most important thing for a president (or any politician) to do is get re-elected.

The Kid from Old Yeller realized faster when something is a lost cause faster than Ron Paul.

Oh and 2 other points to address your question:

1. Ron's pretty much a shoe-in in his district.
2. It's human nature for politics to be this way, even the "St. John"'s and "St. Peter"'s of DC still have a bit of that "politician" in them.

It ain't utopia.

Sounds like a Madison quote, and I don't recognize that from Jefferson.

Maybe he DOES.

He knows damn well that most of his party isn't conservative anymore. He's one of the very few sane voices left on that side.

True, but Paul needs to see that trying to defend the GOP is like trying to bring back to life a week old dead corpse. Unless you're Jesus, you're not going to cut it.

Albiet Ron Paul has been perfectly FREE to claim Independence as some like Liberman has done, but yet he remains as an R for all intents and purposes.

Given that any thought?

Paul is insane if he thinks the libertarian right is the salvation of the GOP. Hoffman's defeat clearly reveals that the mainstream Republican Party has rejected the palinistas and sawahpubs.

We haven't had a "libertarian" right, save a few, campaigning in a national party.

Seriously, it's hard to judge what one would be like based on a recognized few, or those who claim the "libertarian" title but really bend their asses over for the GOP heads.

Do you really want to see massive Socialist Landslide Victories in 2010 & 2012? That's what will happen if a Third Party Candidate eats up Conservative votes. Dr. Paul really did nail this one.
