Detroit Public Schools: 93% Not Proficient in Reading; 96% Not Proficient in Math

The current system lacks accountability, competition, choice. Poor and minority students are disadvantaged thanks to the corrupt educational monopoly.

The market system favors the super rich and evil to the core. It has nothing to do with freedom.

There isn't a first rate educational system on earth that isn't at least partly funded by government.
I have no problem with government funding, but why not let parents and students decide which school is worthy to receive this funding? Then bad schools (whether public or private) will go out of business and good schools will prosper.
How does the public decide what is a good school or a bad school?

Love those southern states. At least they are consistent, right?
Imagine where they would be if black Atlanta teachers didn't inflate the grades of black Georgia kids. If you love southern states you must be really wetting your panties about the big cities.

Lets not go there. Don't try to pretend every white kid in my highschool that graduated gave an honest effort. A lot didn't. White teachers pass white losers too.
Why don't you extend that thought to an even more absurd level? Maybe that 'Red' states have stupider kids.

Are you suggesting that kids' achievement is based on the political affiliation of the state like rdean?

Isn't it obvious? You could talk to parents of children attending a school. You could read newspaper articles about local school districts or tour the schools.

These are mathematics. As such they are meaningless to 96% of black Americans.

If Detroit gave me the responsibility running her school I would make them all into charter schools and the scores would be reported as going up almost overnight. Not too big at first but on their way. Think of what newspaper articles and parents would then say about Detroit schools?

You know what's funny? My brother is a VP of a major corporation. Fortune 500. Actually, somewhere between 350 and 400 on the list. He went to Michigan State and got a masters. Anyways, long story short, I asked him why he's sending his kids to private school when he did just fine going to public school. He said, "he did find DESPITE public school.

The difference is if you are paying for your kids school, you want to see they are studying and learning. In a lot of public schools it is easy for a slacker kid to get by. They don't push as much as they should or could. Which is fine by me because I hated school. I think they need to re do how they teach kids.

Georgia may be 30% black, but most of those other bottom states are 12 or 13% black which is about average for the country. Oops.

Georgia, both Carolinas, Texas, and Virginia did not allow teacher unions which may be another reason her scores are so high.
