Sorry bout that,

1. Somethings fishy in Detroit when the Mayor is set to give away houses.
2. Nearly, he wants a $1,000.00 bucks for a renovated house, within the city.
3. Cops and firefighters are being led with the *house carrot*.
4. Seems not many live within the city, and the Mayor wants them to come back, because he don't feel safe I guess.
5. Seems when he goes out to get his news paper, he can't sling a dead cat without hitting some Muslim praying on a prayer rug facing east.
6. Is this legal for him to give away housing?
7. I think there's more to this story than we are getting from the Mayor.
8. Check it out:Mayor Pushing Police To Live In Detroit CBS Detroit

"These brave women and men already work in the city of Detroit — and now, Mayor Dave Bing wants police officers to live in the city as well.

Bing has been vocal about his desire to get police officers to move back into the city, and now he’s taking action by announcing a new incentive plan to get them to live where they work.

Currently, 53 percent of Detroit Police officers commute to work from the suburbs, and Bing says the number is even higher for firefighters.

As part of a pilot program called “Project 14″ Detroit cops and firefighters who live in the suburbs will be offered renovated homes in the city for as little as $1,000.

Mayor Bing said this is one step in a plan to revitalize Detroit.

“Project 14 is one approach that my administration is deploying to take two challenges facing Detroit — public safety and vacant homes — and turn them into an opportunity for neighborhood revitalization,” Mayor Bing said.

“There are steps that we can and must take today to improve the quality of life for our citizens. That’s why I am announcing Project 14 — an initiative designed to encourage Detroit Police officers to live in the communities in which they serve,” Bing said.

The project is targeting homes in Detroit’s Boston-Edison and East English Village communities. Bing says funding for the project will come from neighborhood stabilization funding, HUD and partnerships with local banks and credit unions. No tax dollars will be spent.

In 1999, the state legislature revoked a controversial rule that required Detroit police officers to live in the city."

9. I wonder if this is for real, can the Mayor actually legally do this?
10. EDIT: I don't think I used too much of the text from the link, seems we got another wanna modsquad member bucking to get his chance!

I actually think the city should sell all their still useable vacant housing for a dollar, let people own the houses because as soon as they are vacant they are striped and burned why leave them empty it makes no sense to me. If you don't live here you don't know how it is.

Awesome comment:

The New Communism: Bankrupt a city through socialist policies, seize the abandoned property, use forcefully taken tax dollars to renovate abandoned property and then redistribute the wealth. Rinse and Repeat.

Chesswarnow do you know what it is like inside Detroit? I doubt you do, the crime rate is very very high, alot of people work inside the city but live on the outskirts of it in places like Ann Arbor, I don't know if I would even live in Detroit if they gave me a free house, you could come home from work and find your place stripped down.

I would guess the lack of job ops, high crime rates and poor school system, Jroc can correct me if I am wrong.

I just heard yesterday that Detroit has a 50% literacy rate, only half of the people can read and understand. What are the Unions doing to help. We have people making $60+ an hour to but hub caps on cars and then sell them to people making $8/hr. It doesn't add up yet the Michigan politicians are stuck in the same rut.

As for moving to Texas, please please don't, it would be like living in a foreign country. We have people who work for regular wages, crime is low compare to Detroit and the weather is much nicer. You won't like it, stay there.

50% literacy rate? are you sure?

What is the objection, Jimmy? That the Mayor of Detroit is trying to find ways to revitalize a great American city?

What a bastard he must be, eh?

How is giving people free houses going to revilatize Detroit? that city needs alot of help, you have to drive through the streets of Detroit to be able to comprehend how behind and how forsaken that city is.

Actually my wife made me move, I really never had any problem and would probably still be living there if I were single. People leave because the schools aren’t that great and like I said the nieborhoods are falling apart because most people don't own houses anymore also the crime rate is high you’ve got to know how to live in Detroit. of course I agree that liberal policies have contributed to the downfall of the city along with corrupt and shortsighted politicians and the collapse of the auto industry.

See, this is why we need open borders to allow more low wage, uneducated workers to come here.

Wait wut?

High crime rate? Could that be because over 80 percent of the population is black?
