Details about Obama's Health Care Plan

:confused:Marin, why must health insurance stop ELECTRONIC BILLING? Have you told your doctor, pharmacist, hospital & insurance company that they are idiots? Or do you pay cash for all health care?

First of all, I have good health insurance coverage which doesn't require me depending on other taxpayers to care for my health. And where in my post do I say health insurance should stop electronic billing?

The idiots I'm referring to are the ones who voted for Obama and who are in favor of his universal healthcare.

Have you always been this stupid?

btw, this plan AIN'T EVEN CLOSE TO UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE.

It is a plan run by the private sector Insurance companies who stand to make billions a year off of the deal for merely pushing paper.

And you do NOT know that you have great health insurance, UNTIL you go to USE IT for something major.

Everyone THINKS they have great health insurance UNTIL they go to use it at a critical time.

I have had something major. Paid in full after insurance coverage.

Given that the countries that have universal health care have citizens with better longevity, healthier old ages, and much lower infant mortality rate than we do, I would say that calling anyone stupid for wishing for a Health Care System in our country that is better than some third world nations is smart, not stupid.

I don't buy into that Old Rocks. We have shorter waiting lines for family care, specialists, tests, and proceedures than most universal healthcare. We have better survival rate for cancer viitims and also heart disease victims. Yes, we do need to tweak the healthcare industry, but we certainly don't need to overhaul it, like what's suggested. I think in the end that Obamacare will be something a lot different than what's on the table as I type. I think it will be toned down and more efficient than what we have at the present. This will be done with government oversight, and mandates.

Prenatal care and infant care are available now to everyone regardless of income or insurance, so citing infant mortality rates says nothing about our health care system. Similarly, life expectancies vary widely among nations that have universal health care/health insurance and even among different groups within those nations, so it would seem that genetic and cultural factors have a lot to to with longevity and it is unclear what role the health care system plays.

Here in the US we already have, in addition to private and government run health insurance plans, federally funded clinics just about everywhere that provide comprehensive medical and dental care to the uninsured for free or on a sliding scale basis depending on your income and there are many privately funded clinics that do the same in all metropolitan areas, so everyone already has affordable access to nearly all health care services they may need. All that is lacking is catastrophic coverage so that if uninsured people who cannot afford comprehensive health insurance become so ill these clinics cannot provide the services they need they won't go broke.

I have uninsured diabetic patients who need insulin & test strips on a daily basis. The test strips are over $1 each, no company donates these for our patients. To regulate insulin well someone may need to test 3 or more times daily. A 23 year old type 1 patient was hospitalized recently with severe DKA & blood sugar of over 900! Thousands of dollars in hospitalization costs. There is no free or sliding scale clinic in our area. We try to supply whatever we can whenever we can but it is very difficult when so many are in need.
A major employer in our area had layoffs this month. I have had so many people come in to say they won't be continuing their prescriptions unless they can get them on the $4 generic list. Not everything important is available on that list but we do our best to make do!:(

Y'all really need to stop picking out one or two lines and read the entire section for context.

I guess since the 'private insurance will be outlawed!!!' and 'they're going to off our seniors!!!' scare tactics were proven false, we're now moving on to uncle sam rifling through our bank accounts.

Sheesh.

how was it proven false? I'm curious!

Obamacare will improve this how ? By rationing the top 30% of the worst cases ? awesome solution .........

Rocks the fact that they have a longer life expectancy likely has almost nothing to do with the quality of their health care system which by the way essentially stops once you hit the mid sixties. It is in fact linked almost entirely to their far smaller percentage of 3rd worlders legal and otherwise entering their country.

There are federally funded clinics everywhere in the US. Type in the name of the city closest to you here and you will find one.

Do a google search for "free clinic (city name)" and you will find privately funded clinics in every metropolitan area.

Which would be ruined if Obamacare passes ........

The closest one is 47.6 miles away. I'll call them & see if they will help. Not the same county so I don't know, & I was at that clinic years ago when I was a Public Health Nurse & it seemed that the services were limited, but I'll check it out. If people have decent transportation & money for gas is another issue.

Where? How much per test strip? What meter? Thank you, would be great to know, all the reliable test strips seem to be over $1 each.

While drug companies often have compassionate care programs that provide free or discounted drugs to patients identified by their doctors as hardship cases, I couldn't find such a program from test strip manufacturers, but Walmart does offer a blood glucose monitor for $9.00

Walmart.com: ReliOn Ultima Blood Glucose Monitor: Health Care Products

and strips to go with it for $20.00 per 50 count. That's $.40 per strip, a lot cheaper than the $1.00 per strip your patients have been paying.

Walmart.com: ReliOn Ultima Strip 50ct: Health Care Products

Walmart's shipping charges are generally very low.

By the way the way this works out with the government instead of your needy patients paying $1 dollar per strip the taxpayers will likeli be paying five or ten times that.

I keep telling people that there are three things that drive health care costs, access (which equals demand for all practical purposes) technology, and lawyers. Tell me which one of those do you think the Obama crowd will be most willing to deal with?

Much less than Walgreens.com, some brands 50 strips for $61.99. One Touch is a good meter, that is what my husband uses, but the other is certainly worth checking out for the price.

Although I'm not familiar with the brands, here is an online source that has some brands a low as $16.14 for a box of 50.
