Describe Heaven To Me, Please

If you're serious about finding a description of heaven, I direct you to the bible. People who have questions of faith should never get their information second hand.

The bible describes it. No pain, no sorry, continual joy, reunited with loved ones, mansions to reside in. Doesn't sound like a trip to the dentist to me.

I envision Heaven as a state of being personally tailored to me, created by me, enabled by being one with God.

I envision Hell as a state of state of being personally tailored to me, created by me, enabled by the lack of any contact with God.

I believe there are animals in heaven, as well as animals we have loved in the past, because heaven is a place where we reap the reward of our faith. God gave us animals to provide us first with companionship, joy and beauty...and later food...and I don't see him denying that to us in heaven.

Heaven is a perfect earth, where all will love their maker, and experience the joy of being near him...while at the same time experiencing the joys of being human minus illness, sorrow, loss and death.

God is always making everything new. Our bodies are electric machines controlled by the spirit of who we really are. Our bodies, like everything else in the universe, breakdown to where they started and build up again.

The idea of a permanent heaven or hell goes against God always making things new. the same ole no matter how great eventually would get old (like a favorite song). God needs to constantly make things new – even us.

Tschüß!

Whatever your vision of Heaven might be, how do you reconcile yourself to the unchanging, static nature of it over All Eternity? I dun care if you believe Heaven is an orgasm.....after awhile it gets old, dun it?

Will you miss those you love who are not so lucky as you in their afterlife destination?

Do pets go to Heaven? Do all animals?

In my case, I like doing photography.

But strict interpretations of the Old Testament indicate that photography is forbidden.

According to Exodus 20:4
"Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth"

I think that a lot of photographers and other visual artists would be disappointed to discover that YES they got into Paradise, but NO they won't be allowed to continue to indulge in their most favorite of activities in Paradise.

I think that I would rather be a street photographer in HELL, than to sit about idly in Paradise!

The problem with using the Bible to describe heaven to a non believer is that the believer can incorporate all the parables and metaphors and symobolism and imagery into a fuller concept without having to believe that yes, it is exactly like it is described in the Bible. The non believer doesn't have the advantage of the Holy Spirit to merge all that into a deeper understanding.

I tend to agree with the Trace Adkins song Hortysir posted that heaven isn't necessarily something all in the future--I think we get glimpses and experience some of it right here, right now. Also hell, whatever that may be.

Not the ones you eat, they become turds.

I believe in Jah and one love, freedom for all peoples.
Heaven is finishing a nice spliff and having my Queen tell me it's time a WWE under the sheets wrestling match.

It's the big blue attention seeking print that immediately pissed me off so I guess it's a job well done.

I think the Bible is fairly silent about heaven because too many people prefer to hurry the process to get there as it is.

I once worked in an office with a woman who was so viscious to people. They would walk in, she would smile and be friendly, then they'd walk away and she obsessed with trashing them with similar minded people. I never saw so much backstabbing gossip in my life. It was really hard to watch and work there.

I used to pray every morning as I drove to work for help to try to love this person, to forgive her because I was sure she was no nicer behind my back than anyone else. In fact worse because I wouldn't join in and she felt competitive with me. After about a year God showed me just a piece of the difference between heaven and hell.

I've never forgotten it. It radically changed my life.

Ok, that made no sense. NEXT!

Open your eyes if you want to see heaven and hell.

Religion has fooled people into thinking that heaven and hell are some other place. You are in heaven or hell every day of your life. The best part is that you actually get to choose which one you experience every morning when you open your eyes.

Onna my dearest friends is a devout Southern Baptist. He says Hell is an eternity spent repeating the very sins that got you condemned in the first place.

I have to say, that is a chilly thought.

Depends, maybe you robbed a bank and went and lived it up in Vegas with hot women and good drugs until you got caught.

I do believe if there is a Hell, it has to be built on an inability to escape or correct injustice. Next to food and air, I think humans need love and justice in their worlds.....depriving almost anyone of this is a pure torture.

:) I hope he's wrong because a whole lot of folks have a LOT of fun doing those sins even if they feel remorse later. Okay I know I'm demonstrating the sin of vanity, but I don't want the folks who don't go to heaven to get a better deal than those of us who do. :)

I leave issues of whatever hell is up to God and don't worry about it. The Biblical accounts are even more symbolic and obscure than the Biblical descriptions of heaven, and I don't pretend to even have a clue what hell is like.

I have enjoyed a little story being circulated around though about the guy who died and was met by Peter and Satan. Peter took him up on the elevator to show him a life pretty much like the one he had lived but with most of the uglies removed. "I can give you complete assurance that this is pretty much what you can expect," said St. Peter. It looked pretty darn good.

Satan then took him down on the elevator to show him a world of golf and yachts and casinos and a wonderful array of wines, liquors, delicacies, and all manner of pleasures and good times. That looked better.

Back on the surface he thanked both and reported that he thought his lifestyle was better suited for hell.

He was put back on the elevator and went down to find a vast colorless wasteland with nothing in it but miserable people wandering through it.

"What happened?" He asked Satan.

"Before I was campaigning," Satan replied. "Then you voted."

I think we all should give careful thought about what we vote for. :)

That was great Fox, if I could rep you again, I would.

The movie "What dreams may come" with Robin Williams...I thought it was really off about heaven, REALLY off...but hell seemed pretty accurate
