The newly chosen head of the Dems - the son of Dominican immigrants - has stated his vision for rebuilding his party. He began by admitting the Dem's "are suffering from a crisis of confidence, a crisis of relevance," that they have lost almost almost 1,000 state legislature seats since 2009, and face an uphill task in trying to reclaim majorities in Congress in next year’s midterm elections..

A good beginning.

However, in a nod to Ellison, Sanders, and their far left, Perez said "We need to do more to collaborate with our partners in the progressive movement," which may mollify the progs but does little to assuage the public perception of a Dem party beholden to its increasing demanding loony left.

The battle for top dog - which took two votes - was as competitive as any in my memory and underscored the deep divisions within the party.

America is best served by having 2 strong and relevant political parties. The next few months could determine whether the Dems continue their slide or right their ship. What's it gonna be guys? Another move to the ideological left or a return to the center and genuinely pragmatic liberalism?

2 votes away from putting an actual racist in charge of the party, which changes is hilarious after all the fallacious cries of "racism" really: Trump

The Democrat Party is irrevocably broken

Yeah, it's like Karl Rove in 2002 proclaiming a permanent Republican majority!

or like just about everyone giddily claiming that Trump had no chance?

It definitely looks like the energy in the party is to move it significantly (and proudly) Left. But Trump supporters shouldn't celebrate that. If Trump blows it, those are the people who would benefit in '18 and '20.

If he and the US are even just moderately successful, the Dem slide will continue.

Ellison isn't a racist and the Dems can return to relevance if they return to rationality. We need two strong political parties to make this thing run right. Just consider the plight of most large American cities that have suffered virtual one-party rule for decades.

When did neoliberal become center?

I said "genuinely pragmatic liberalism."

OK ... so all is not lost. Perez admitted the Dems "are suffering from a crisis of confidence, a crisis of relevance..."

What would you have the party do to return to relevance? Your opinion matters.

That is the center. The Democratic party is right wing. The center keeps moving to the right. For all intensive purposes played out in policy it's neoliberalism. That is your loony left. They aren't left at all and it is looking like the GOP agrees with this.

he is an anti Semite - charges of racism against him are far more credible than charges levied against Donald Trump

I agree that returning to relevance would happen more quickly if they would start behaving rationally, but I do not believe they will be rational. And unfortunately, I believe that there are enough people that have embraced the insanity of the fringe left for them to remain relevant

I really do fear for this country & think we have probably already crossed the line from which there is no turning back - the vitriol against Trump for simply advocating common sense is proof of this...

Ellison is too radical. He has too many confirmed associations with current day Jew Haters. Most Jews are Democrats. Do the math.

You understand that undermines your proclamation, right?

Imagine the party of JFK (ask not what your Country can do for you) running a socialist in the primaries and toying with the idea of a jihadist anti-American to lead the party? Keep on being the obstructionist party and fade away into obscurity.

The Dem Party is not right wing and our center isn't moving ... our fringes - thanks to the MSM, the Internet, and social media - are just becoming more vocal.

Neither are anti-Semites.

Even if all American Jews were Dems - and they aren't - and all opposed Ellison - and they don't - they would not constitute a large enough constituency to matter. Ellison was supported by Sanders (Jewish) but is too closely tied to the progs and has too much baggage.

Ellison is neither anti-American nor is he a jihadist.

I'm really more interested in what, if anything, the Dems can do to return to relevance. Any ideas?

The Democrats supported privatizing social security, public education, post office and overthrowing governments for oil. That is not center. That's right.
