Dems in Big Trouble in 2020. Here's Why.

The Democrats "problem" is that in order for a candidate to win the nomination...it appears they will have to go hard to the left...making totally unrealistic promises to appease the progressive wing of the party. Then to win a general election they're going to have to sell themselves to more moderate voters by posing as centrists. Hard to come through THAT without appearing to be full of shit!

Not really. By that logic, Obama never would have won.

The reality is, moderates lose. Nobody gets all that excited about "moderates". That last time someone won running as a "moderate" was Bill Clinton, and that involved a three way race where the Republican did what Republicans do best, get us into an unnecessary war and wrecking the economy.

End of the day, that mass in the middle will have to ask itself, can we really put up with four more years of a crazy person in the White House.

More like the middle asking themselves...why would I vote out the guy that has the economy booming...and replace him with the same idiots who didn't have a clue what to do with the economy the last time they were in charge!

You on the left have to paint Trump as "crazy" because if you tried to run on your policies compared to his...you wouldn't be able to elect a Democrat as town dog catcher!

Tom Stayer entering the fray officially today might throw a monkey wrench into your analysis. Of course how a billionaire hedge fund guy who made his money off coal is going to rebrand himself an environmentalist and man of the people remains to be seen. He has the money to buy the nomination though.

You think money is going to buy the votes of the far left? Steyer is jumping in because he recognizes the Democrats don't have a viable candidate and he's trying to fill the void. He might do well in a general election against Trump but he's not going to win the nomination because he's not extreme enough.

Agreeing to pay off the DNC debts seemed to help Hillary win the nomination. You don't need to be extreme to win the super delegates. You just need to be rich.

But Clinton had the Clinton political machine already in place (including Debbie Wasserman Schultz at the DNC) and huge name recognition. What does Steyer have that even comes close to that?

And Debbie sold her the nomination in exchange for paying of the DNC debt. The DNC was basically bankrupt. This is why you heard things after the fact about the plan to tank Bernie by attacking his religion etc from inside the party. Steyer has donated a LOT of money to progressive causes. He has been working at buying this thing for awhile.

Does he have the political machine behind him to pull that off though? Does he have Clinton's name recognition? Contributing money to progressive causes gets you the ear of progressive politicians...it doesn't necessarily get you the votes of progressives.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz was in Clinton's camp no matter what the financial situation of the DNC was. They had a relationship that went back for some time.

Do you think Steyer has anything like that inside of the DNC?

No one really thinks Trump has had anything to do with the good economy he inherited... and it will be in full recession next year.

You on the left have to paint Trump as "crazy" because if you tried to run on your policies compared to his...you wouldn't be able to elect a Democrat as town dog catcher!

Actually, most Americans support Democratic policies... That's why they've won every popular vote since 1988 except for 2004, when Bush had to scare the crap out of us to barely win.

Once the economy goes into the tank, Commie Bernie could run against Trump and win. The problem with Steyer is he's been trying to build a movement for two years, and has gotten nowhere.

As a repub you probably thing repubs will win every year

It is bound to happen so don't believe you have a crystal ball

Barack Obama 2012 Democratic 65,915,795
Hillary Clinton 2016 Democratic 65,853,514
Trump 2016 62,984,828
Mitt Romney 2012 Republican 60,933,504

if someone told me in 2016 that the nominee would still lose when they got roughly 3 million more votes, I would have my doubts

The electoral college is the winner every year

As I said way back in March 2016, the Dems were in big trouble with the upcoming 2016 Presidential Election. I said this when most pollsters had Hillary with a 90% chance or higher of winning the election. You can see my comments here.

Hillary Is Losing the Black Vote

Since only roughly half of the electorate actually votes polls mean very little. What is important is who shows up on election day. There was a marked enthusiasm gap between the GOP and Dem voters in 2016. Specifically, 40% less Dem voters showed up to vote in their primaries versus Republicans. As I said in my post, in every election since 1992 the party with the higher primary turnout won the election.

So that brings us to the 2020 election. The first GOP debate in 2016 drew over 24 million viewers on Fox News. There was a tremendous enthusiasm to see GOP Candidates and that manifested in the subsequent primary voting turnout and in the general election.

The first Dem debate this week on NBC only drew 15 million viewers. That is a 60% ratings decline versus the first GOP debate the last election cycle.

This tells me there is not much enthusiasm among Dem voters or the general public for their candidates. This can be confirmed by Joe Biden rallies that struggle to get 400 voters to show up versus Trump rallies where thousands are turned away.

Admittedly it is early, but voter intensity appears to be much stronger on the GOP side again this election cycle. And yes there is tremendous anger at Trump from the far Left, but it does not seem to be translating to enthusiasm for the Dem candidates on offer.

Yep. They're fucked because they've gone moonbat left.

There's not a single candidate they have brought forward thus far who could beat Trump--and the Dem leaders know it. I keep saying it: they will go for a celebrity at the last minute. Oprah or Michelle O if they can get either one to run.

Actually, the polls show most of them could beat Trump, and that's BEFORE the Trump recession starts.

RCP Average- Trump vs. Biden- Biden +8.9%

RealClearPolitics - Election 2020 - General Election: Trump vs. Biden

Trump vs. Commie Bernie - Sanders +6.5%

Were those the same polls that said Hillary would win in a landslide? Cos news flash...they suck.
