Dems disenfranchise Mass for voting republican

Scott Brown won't be sworn in until Feb 11.

Nikke Tsongas was sworn in within 48 hours of her special election in 2007.

fatboy was sworn in the DAY AFTER his first special election in 1962.

just sayin'

A typical dumb Dem move in the age of Obama-Pelosi, attitude instead of intellect, politics instead of policy. This delay may play well with the Dembot base, but independents, the people who gave the Dems the WH and control of Congress and who elected Scott Brown, will view this move with contempt and disgust and it can only serve to hurt the Party in the polls and at the polls in November.

BAD DEMBOTS!!!

BAD DEMBOTS!!!

don't sugarcoat it, willow, tell us how you really feel.
:eusa_angel:

yeah, it's not like the repubs are political or anything...

how long did it take to get Al Franken certified again because the governor of his state was GOP?

and Burris wasn't sworn in immediately either.

just sayin'

politics is a full contact team sport.

Franken lost that election. Burris was looking at potential legal actions against him and the person who appointed him (no election was there?). Pretty weak argument.

Oh yes, Al Franken was held up for months. It was close but not close enough for Coleman to keep it going that dang long.

exactly!!

they love doing that... whine when people do back to them what they've done. :cuckoo:

so we have to be punished because people in minn don't know how to rig, err, run an election?

i'm outraged.

Well with the SCOTUS decision, all bets are off. The Rs hope to rig November so lets get everything possible done before then.

Democrats were saying seat him quickly but they may have thought it through after that shit came down.

So...Supreme Court Justices are Republicans and are in league with Congressional Republicans? Are you dense?

It's pretty rare that I agree with Willow, but this is one of those times.

To suggest that this is ANYTHING remotely like the Franken election is not only seriously fucking retarded, but it also betrays an intellectual dishonesty that normally accompanies partisan hackery.

Who would've thought jillybean was a partisan hack?

Yea, cuz Franken was the clear winner - right from the git-go, right? And Burris.... yep, nothing contraversial with him either.....

Once again, could we not compare apples to orangutans?

Oh wow, what a big surprise. :doubt:

Massachusetts Secretary of State Galvin one day prior to the election:

Galvin: I Won't Slow Process If Brown Wins

Some Lawmakers Sworn In Within Days Of Election

BOSTON -- Secretary of State William Galvin said he will not delay the swearing-in process if Republican Scott Brown is elected to fill the Senate seat formerly held by Ted Kennedy, but would only announce an unofficial winner if the results are decisive.

But Brown warned that Senate Democrats would delay swearing him in if he wins to avoid a 41st vote against the health care bill.

Interesting how Barney Frank responded to the question by a reporter that the Dems might delay the confirmation in the event that Scott Brown won:

"That is the stupidest thing I've been asked in a long time. That is insane, the suggestion could only come from a demented right wing source," erupted Representative Barney Frank (D - MA), when asked by The Washington Times about what he thought of assertions that Massachusetts Democrats would stall the certification process should Mr. Brown win. "There isn't the slightest possibility of it happening---a way of doing it. That is conspiracy theory at its most contemptible."

difference being the contest in Minn. was contested with numerous delays and recounts.Same with Burris lots of controversy and questions of a legal nature, . Nothing short of a landslide in Mass.. Seat the man.

coleman knew he wasn't winning at the last recount. he still appealed.

no difference. that's what politicians do. and if they have too thin a skin for the big game, they shouldn't be playing.

or do you need to read Bush v Gore?

Yeah.. just ignore the fact that Coleman actually won the first count. I cant imagine why someone who watched a panel hand the election to his opponent would try to fight it.

Apparently they are going to delay the health care vote as well.

Massachusetts GOP Senator-elect Scott Brown is looking at Feb. 11 as his swearing-in day, a spokesman told POLITICO.

Brown spokesman Felix Browne said their office has indicated to the Secretary of the Senate that they anticipate the certification process will be completed by then, but that they are “ultimately amenable to other days should the Senate set another day.”

Several calls to the Secretary of the Senate were not returned Tuesday.

Browne said the campaign has had “no concerns about the certification process.” In the run up to Brown’s upset victory, there had been speculation that, in the event he won, his swearing in might be delayed to push through a health care bill. But since his win top Democrats have said no such vote will be held until Brown officially joins the Senate.

I am curious....do you watch the news at all? Do you read newspapers?
Even the left of the left can not and have not said that the multiple recounts were not necessary. I mean...Jeez......Franken himself demanded the first one as he was the original loser...IT WAS THAT CLOSE....

Jeez...talk about clueless.

Closest to a fact the liberals get to is manipulated temperature data. It is all that lead paint in their Walmart toys they ate.

While Republicans continue to celebrate the historic Senate victory of Scott Brown in Massachusetts, conservative leaders in Washington have begun their push to get the senator-elect certified before Democrats finalize their version of the healthcare reform bill.

Brown, who represents the Republicans’ 41st vote in the Senate, breaking the Democrats’ filibuster-proof majority, has vowed to join the fight against the current piece of legislation being debated in Congress and "send it back to the drawing board."

...

When questioned on the possibility of attempting to stall the seating of Scott Brown in order to pass the healthcare bill, President Obama stated that "the people of Massachusetts spoke. He’s got to be part of that process."

BTW those arguing that Franken not being seated is somehow a justification for not seating Brown immediately, how long after the Senate election in Minnesota was no longer being contested and when Franken was seated?

It would seem to me that as one of the owners of the country and therefore Congress, that you would want to take the time to find out if a February 11th swearing in was out of the norm before you began crying foul.

USA TODAY has done some research on what the Senate has done in the past. In four of the past 10 cases where interim Senate appointees chose not to run for election, their replacements were seated within 48 hours of election. In the other cases, it was a matter of weeks before the newly elected senators were sworn in. Details and a complete list below.
