Democrats Want Trump’s Tax Returns, but Won’t Release Their Own

There is precedent for candidates running for president to release their tax returns. For Congress there is not.

With that said, I'm more than happy to have a law to make it mandatory for all individuals who are running for federal office to release their tax returns. But we're never going to get that level of transparency if we let the president off the hook.

Congress critters would go a long way toward establishing credibility if they would be willing to do what they're demanding the president do. The reality is, Congress isn't much more popular than Trump is.

There's never been an expectation that members of Congress release their tax returns. Just like there was never an expectation for a president to release his long form birth certificate.

Let's be real, one side goes above and beyond and the other doesn't.

Trump's released enough to disprove the ridiculous complaint that he pays no income taxes.

Regardless, Congress doesn't have much moral high ground on this one.

This isn't about whether Trump pays income taxes or not. And Congress or anyone else has the moral high ground to want to see the presidents tax returns.

Trump is the first President in 20 years to refuse to show American citizens his tax returns.

Congress has never shown their tax returns.

Trump has no legal obligation to show Americans his tax returns, but since he is the only President in the last 20 years to keep his tax returns confidential it is perfectly legal to ask what he doesn't want us to see.

like you - i'd love to see a set of criteria that is required to run for office and all parties follow it. if they ask for something *not* on the required list - tough.
