There are the reckless on both sides of the aisle. For starters I'd like both parties to remove McConnell and Reid from leadership roles. Both are not only drunk on power, they appear not to have the country's interests at heart.

Likewise any idiots advocating going over the cliff, she face a reprimand from both the parties and the citizenry.

And the people who re-elected OBAMA (or stoled the election for him) have the country's interest at heart? Bullshit. This country is headed right where Obama intended it to go in 2008. That would be OVER THE CLIFF. And it's all Bush's fault to this very second and the next second after that.

He wants to break what's left of the U.S. economy. It's done for. We ain't seen nuthin yet. I wonder if he has contacted Medvedev yet?

Some people seem to have forgotten that the whole point of the sequester was to cut the deficit and work towards solving this fiscal mess we have.

Now suddenly, seems like most people are conceding that we need to run big deficits to keep the economy alive.

What's the deal with that?

I would prefer they use a planned strategy of raising taxes slowly; however, if Republicans stick to their guns of no tax increases at all, then so be it; we'll take the jump. I imagine there is a good chance the Bush tax cuts expire, and then there are new negotiations on future tax cuts that can be made retroactive. Basically, the wealthy will see there taxes go up one way or another.

What data makes you believe confiscating more of our earnings will improve the revenue flow or make Washington fiscally responsible?

In order to attempt to force the hand of the GOP, the democrat party would risk scuttling the economy and sending us into deep recession by suggesting the government deliberately drive the economy off the fiscal cliff.
These are such good Americans. They risk the very well being of the people they claim to want to help for political gain.

Hmmmm....where were you when the GOP was doing the same during the "debt ceiling" debate?

Non sequitur. If you want to discuss the debt ceiling, start a thread on that subject.

All this talk of going over the fiscal cliff is scaring the shit out of Republicans who have been telling us forever that we need to cut spending. If we go over the fiscal cliff, then we will cut spending. Funny how that works. So do you want to cut spending or not?

Nice try. You're obviously in support of the plot.
Politics is more important to you than the economic well being of the country, huh?

Except Democratic Leader REP. NANCY PELOSI, D-Calif.: But I want you to be disabused of any notion that there's any widespread thought that it would be a good thing for our country for us to go over the cliff. We want an agreement. We want an agreement.

:eusa_clap:

reality bites!

and

RICHARD TRUMKA, AFL-CIO: We're going to work together because we have the same goals. That's protecting the middle class. That's creating jobs in this country and making sure that Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries don't get hurt in this process.

That's what SHE says. Of course as an ineffective House minority leader, Pelosi is largely ignored.

Exactly. If going off the "fiscal cliff" happens, there will be automatic huge cuts to the overbloated military, and the bush tax cuts for the rich will end.

The democrats have the GOP's backs against the well and are continuing to hammer them like they should
Umm taxes for EVERYONE will rise and rise dramatically. Also new taxes will kick in. The death tax will return to pre Bush levels.
Again, it's all about politics with you libs.
Fighting for the middle class? My fanny. All you fucking lefties care about is political power.

Leverage, isn't it wonderful? Let's see if the republicans want to hang on to the defense budget more than they want to hang on to the tax cuts, I wonder which one they will sacrifice for the other because that is exactly the choice they will be given.

I say let the tax cuts expire and then negotiate off of the pre-Bush tax rates

This is no fiscal cliff. A fiscal cliff implies that once you pass that date there is no return.

However, Congress can renegotiate new tax rates. Congress can put back things that were automatically cut. There is nothing in this "fiscal cliff" that can't be put back the way it was

So let it expire, let the automatic cuts take hold...Then let Congress negotiate what goes back in

That assumes the democrats who are in the minority in the House are willing to negotiate. Apparently such is not the case.
They want to use the recession as a weapon.
The disgusting things about this are, democrats don't give a shit about the economy. They don't care about the middle class. They are interested only in political power. Screwing the American people to settle a grudge is not good government.
You believe the fiscal cliff is a lie. Do you deliberately keep yourself uninformed?
Any kind of tax increase on the producers is going to have a long lasting negative effect on the economy which will cause a devastating ripple effect around the world.
But you go ahead and cheer for the Jersey. Fuck the country. Just win the battle.

Lol the hypocrisy between this issue and the one one that caused it, the debt ceiling "crisis", is beautiful to behold.

Are We About to Fall Off the Fiscal Cliff?

Will politicians in Washington avoid what some consider a grave situation for our slowly-recovering economy?

By Dave Colby
November 11, 2012

The day after Barack Obama was re-elected as President of the United States, the Dow Jones Industrial average on Wall Street dropped over 312 points.

The next day, it dropped another 100 points.

Investors, savers, retirees - all lost money if they owned stocks in their portfolios.

The cause? Many said it was the impending 'fiscal cliff,' in which tax cuts - first signed into law by President George W. Bush - that citizens have enjoyed for several years will expire on December 31 unless politicians in Washington, D.C. can reach some compromise. The theory is that the values of investor portfolios could drop by as much as 20-25 percent. Economists say that could put our fragile economy into a recession in 2013.

The media was rife with opinion. Said the Huffington Post:

Wall Street should not be thought of as a protected class when negotiations start, in fact they can suck it up and pay like everyone else will be expected to. There will be an agreement, but no one is going to fall on the grenade that is the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy.

This is nothing more than another Kabuki Dance, at which the Dems and their Media cohorts are expert. Why should the GOP go along with the charade and take the blame for all the unpopular spending cuts? GOP Members should let the Dems pass their own plan by abstaining, and let them cook their own goose. At this point, a couple of extra $trillion in debt isn't going to make any difference.

Surrender? Republicans should Surrender? OMG are you people taking this hard.

Nice try. The debt ceiling should been left where it was. Politics was the reason why the ceiling was raised.
They should have shut down the government. It would have shown we the producers could do better without it.

A government default would be far more damaging than the "Fiscal Cliff" tax hikes and spending cuts, republicans are just worried about their defense industry backers who would have lost big in either scenario. It would be nice if they learned from this experience but somehow I see them pulling the same hyped-up "Dire Crisis!" crap over-and-over again.

Or the right wingers are doing so, since they have been the party of no for years now.
