Democrats Deny GOP Bid to Put Health Bill Online

I see, they couldn't put it on line because it never got out of committee. Driveby would call that a smart move.

What do you want to bet it never got "online" because it never "existed"? Republicans don't care about the middle class.
naw, you missed it again

they had it online, but i didnt save the link, nor is it important enough to go look for
the bigger question is why isnt the actual bill they want to vote on actually online for people to see?

Wonder how much pork the democrats are hiding from the American people?

To Republicans, fixing America's roads, railways and bridges are pork.

However long we are keepers of the public trust we should never forget that we are here as public servants and public service is a privilege. It's not about advantaging yourself. It's not about advancing your friends or your corporate clients. It's not about advancing an ideological agenda or the special interests of any organization. Public service is, simply and absolutely, about advancing the interests of Americans.

The way to make government responsible is to hold it accountable. And the way to make government accountable is make it transparent so that the American people can know exactly what decisions are being made, how they're being made, and whether their interests are being well served.

The old rules said that if there was a defensible argument for not disclosing something to the American people, then it should not be disclosed. That era is now over. Starting today, every agency and department should know that this administration stands on the side not of those who seek to withhold information but those who seek to make it known.

The Freedom of Information Act is perhaps the most powerful instrument we have for making our government honest and transparent, and of holding it accountable. And I expect members of my administration not simply to live up to the letter but also the spirit of this law.

Let me say it as simply as I can: Transparency and the rule of law will be the touchstones of this presidency.

WASHINGTON -- Senate Finance Committee Democrats have rejected a GOP amendment that would have required a health overhaul bill to be available online for 72 hours before the committee votes.

Republicans argued that transparency is an Obama administration goal. They also noted that their constituents are demanding that they read bills before voting.

Democrats said it was a delay tactic that could have postponed a vote for weeks.

The Democrats noted that unlike other committees, the Finance Committee works off conceptual language that describes policies — instead of legislative language that ultimately becomes law, and which the GOP amendment would have required.

This will backfire on them.

Look for a leaked updated CBO report coming soon...

It's going to backfire BIG TIME November of next year.

Just like to say, I would of loved to see all these Republicans wanting Transparency back when Republicans were running the show. I also do hope that you actually care to ask for Transparency back whenever Republicans get power again instead of being mere sheep.

Also, did any of you even bother to read Dive's link?

Democrats accepted an alternate amendment to make conceptual language available online before a vote.

Not sure why any of you think Obama's going to take us towards socialism still though. He's going to offer up public option like a lamb to the GOP, meanwhile his secret deal with Big Pharma stands. Sounds plenty Capitalist to me.

Big gubmint making insider deals with BigPharm is now capitalistic?

Shit, how the language has been debased.

Oh you don't think that Government hasn't made deals with other companies when it came to prior Administrations?

Ever hear of the term "no-bid contract"? :eusa_eh:

It's about as Capitalistic and American now a days as Apple Pie and Pre-Existing Conditions. :eusa_eh:

Barry campaigned on transparency, in case you missed it...

Are you dismissing his lies?

Didn't say that at all.

But if you're going to claim that more insider deals involving the feds, BigPharm and the FDA is "capitalist", I wanna know how you go about defining "fascist".

A politician campaigning on transparency. Isn't that an oxymoron?

I'm saying that Obama said a lot of things during the election season to get elected. However, he's not going to end up backing plenty of that. He has pretty much told Liberals to go fuck themselves, so I'm not sure why you think I don't see the writing on the wall.

Well I was being sarcastic on the idea of it being "capitalist". I'd call it bullshit more than anything. However, it has become a common norm now a days so I'm not surprised by it.

He hasn't the courage for that, or just about anything else.

Nope, for Little Lord Obammyroy, the safe bet is the status quo, no matter now much hopey changey he promised.
