Surfing around the web and reading Alternet, MoveOn, Kos, and Atrios, I'm convinced that the Democratic party is completely out of touch with main stream America.

They truly believe that those of us that choose to vote for GWB are not facing reality or to stupid to understand reality. They just can't understand that someone could have a different view or opinion. And I fear once again in '08 they will put forth a candidate that can not connect with the average American household.

Reading an article on Alternet, one writer claimed "it's not our country anymore", ahh it was never "your" country. And that right there is the problem. It's the American peoples country.

Heard one talk show host claim he was leaving the country because he didn't want to live under a dictatorship. Since when are dictators elected by 51% of the vote?

So for now I have to hope someone steps up in the next four years and forces this party back to middle.

I watched Hardball last night cuz I wanted to get Matthews take on things. Believe it not, he gets it. He kept telling his democratic guests last night, you guys don't get it. The American people have spoken, and MORALS DO MATTER.

I might just have to do that, but I have 4 years to think about it. ;)

Thanks Avatar and thanks to everyone here, I enjoy all discussions and support.

Now who wants to pretend it's Friday and hit "attitude adjustment hour". :wine:

I believe it. I've always liked Matthews. He doesn't hide the fact that his personal leanings are to the left, but he goes about everything with common sense and is very fair about his interviews 99% of the time. The one time I was disappointed was when he interviewed John Kerry. He should have called his show Softball that night.

Now that the election is over and they don't feel obligated to spout out the party lines, I've noticed a few Dems finally saying what they really think about the way the campaign went this year. I heard one guy say something like, "We had an unlikeable candidate and no clear direction." The people on DU won't get it, which shocks nobody, but there are some out there that do.

I've been lurking DU over the past few days and some of them actually get it. They realize that there are core values in America upon which Bush won and how the radical/fringe elements of their party push voters away from them. However, there's still lots there who are conviced of their utter "progressive" superiority. I suspect we'll see quite a bit of dissarray over the next few years and doubt they'll be able to get their act together by 2008. How many beatings do those guys need to realize that we are not a socialist-leaning European country?

He always has been a bandwagon kind of asshole. Who more than he used his time slot to berate the President. If he really does get it, he has been lying for the last several months with his listeners.

True. It is clear he was trying to sway the election with his coverage. Now that they have lost, he will go back to being an honest evaluator of the political scene as he knows that is the only way he will be able to stay on the air. I just wonder if he didn't piss off too many GOP folks that the influential ones will not go on his show.

Yeah, I found it interesting that he chose to broadcast on Tuesday with a background of hundreds of people waving Kerry/Edwards signs. Totally inappropraite for election night coverage.

I have tried to watch the guy to get opposing views on things but when he started his screaming campaign I couldnt stand it anymore. But I agree, he used to be a pretty good reporter

I'll never forget Chris Mouthews and his screaming interview with the Swift Boats vet who couldn't get in a word edgewise. IMO the guy is a jerk and easily swayed by what he perceives to be in his self-serving interest.

And it's usually these same people who say that Bush supporters are intolerant of people who have a different opinion.

The parties are always changing, the Democrats contrary to common belief accepted so much money that they couldn't stand for anything. When you don't stand for anything America will see through you. As I'm sure everyone saw Kerry never said one thing without contradicting himself. Can't stand for something when you endorse nothing. The Democrats need to get their shit together to say the least. The sad part is they didn't think about this during the election.

What they don't get is it is precisely middle America that did vote for Bush and his ideas. Secondly the Libs lost, they lost big, and it is not Bush that has to embrace them it is they who need to reach across the aisle and work with Bush.

When Clinton won office by 47% of the vote no-one on the left said he needs to govern from the middle. Bush won by 51-52% the highest in American history.

Hehe, anecdote time. Yesterday, I was walking around campus with this *BIIIIIIIIIG* grin on my face all day, and every time I saw some depressed lib, it got bigger. :teeth: This smiley doesn't even begin to show it. Well, anyway, I was walking around and somebody said to me, "Well, you sure look happy." I said, in a very immature, almost gloating tone, "Yes." Here's the rest of it:

"What happened that put you in such a good mood?"
"Did you see the election results?"
"Yes." (in a "that's why you shouldn't be happy" tone)
"That's why I'm so happy."
"Oh, are you happy about the mayor or the state ammendments."
"Well, yes, but that's not the reason for the grin."
"You mean you actually voted for George W. Bush?" (astounded tone. She could've been saying "You mean you actually failed a class on purpose?")
"Yes. Yes I did." *giggle*
"I can't believe this. I keep telling people to get informed. I mean, you probably have no idea how many horrible things he's done."
*smile goes to this* more or less
"This is the kind of condescending attitude I've been getting sick of for the past four years! You people are so convicned that your way is the right way that you actually think the only reason people would vote Republican is if either they were corrupt and had something to gain of if they're too stupid to know better! Well, I AM well informed, and I voted for George W. Bush because I actually LIKE what he stands for and I APPROVE of most of the things he's done! I want to attack terrorists! I want to have SOME SEMBLANCE of morality in our laws! I want to actually KEEP some of the money I earn instead of being forced to hand it to welfare moms who REFUSE to get a job and earn their own money and instead CHURN OUT BABIES to get a fatter check from MY pocket!!! And I DON'T want a pandering, flip-flopping, UN slave, ultraliberal WEINER in the White House FORCING ME TO PAY FOR HIS TWISTED IDEALS and telling me that it's for my own good!!! I think abortion is WRONG, homosexuality is SIN, and that WE, not the horribly corrupt UN, should determine what to do in OUR OWN DEFENSE!!! That's why I voted for George W. Bush, you arrogant, condescending little jerk! And while I'm at it, HA!!!!"
*she just kind of stared blankly at me, obviously shocked*
"Well, now that I've got that out of my system; awfully close race, wasn't it? I'm just glad somebody won by a clear margin so the nation can start healing. We need to move on in the world united."

I drew some stares and had a lot of fun saying that.
