In 2008, Barack Obama was swept into the White House in large part due to public opposition to President Bush’s heavy-handed use of executive power and accusations that he had circumvented Congress - a constant criticism employed by candidate Obama on the stump.

Consider this quote: “We can no longer wait for Congress to do its job. . . . So where Congress won’t act, I will.”

It sounds like the kind of executive arrogance for which Bush was regularly pilloried by the media and his Democratic opponents. Yet these were not words uttered by President Bush; they were spoken by President Obama on October 29th, 2011 during his weekly radio address.

Since taking office two years ago, the Obama administration has engaged in a pattern of executive power abuse that would make even Richard Nixon blush. In fact, the administration has made a deliberate strategic decision that the only way they can advance their radical leftwing agenda is to circumvent the Congress and openly defy the will of the people. As Julie Pace wrote last week in the Associated Press, “Leaving behind a year of bruising legislative battles, President Barack Obama enters his fourth year in office having calculated that he no longer needs Congress to promote his agenda.”

White House deputy press secretary, Josh Earnest, has even gone so far as to state as a matter of public record that the administration now considers the role of Congress to be optional, saying of legislative action: “that’s no longer a requirement.”

This is a very troubling – not to mention blatantly unconstitutional – approach to governing, one that every American must be made aware of in this critical election year that will decide so much about our country’s future.

I wish Bush had experienced a tenth of the obstruction President Obama has endured. Despite having the most nominees blocked than any other candidate in HISTORY, President Obama has made fewer recess appointments than the last three or four Presidents.

The will of the people is that we need a group dedicated to protecting the average citizens rights against the big money intrests. It is the will of the obstuctionist (Republicans) to not allow such an advocacy agency to exist. I applaud the president for finally showing he has a pair.

FAIL is right, fool, but it's obama doing the fail. Here's the Josh Earnest quote from the Washington Times:
“Now that he’s sort of free from having to put out these fires, the president will have a larger playing field. If that includes Congress, all the better,” said Josh Earnest, White House deputy press secretary. But, he added, “that’s no longer a requirement.”

Aides say the president will not turn his back on Congress completely in the new year. He is expected to once again push lawmakers to pass elements of his jobs bill that were blocked by Republicans last fall.

If those efforts fail, the White House says, Obama’s re-election year will focus almost exclusively on executive action. Earnest said Obama will unveil at least two or three directives per week — a continuation of the “We Can’t Wait” campaign the administration began this fall — and seek to define Republicans in Congress as gridlocked and dysfunctional.

Send Hugo Chavez a get well card lately?

What amazes me is the response well this has been going on since Nixon. Or republicans do it too so it's ok. Aren't Dems supposed to be better, at least from their own perspective? If you are touting yourself as the better alternative then you should hold yourselves to a higher standard. The same goes for Republicans. I see this argument from both sides on this board all the time.

This is not a partisan issue, it is a constitutional issue. The fact that so many people around here defend their team blindly is disheartening to me. The only two teams that matter are the Government vs. The People. This divisive squabbling plays into the hands of the powergrabbers because at least half the people are ok with it as long as it's thier team doing it. The net effect is that no matter which team is in power the american people lose.

Being someone of a hybrid left wing radical and right wing extremist myself, I'm still awaiting Obama's "left wing" agenda.
