A Renewed Crackdown on Redlining - BusinessWeek

Read the whole thing.

Behind all the flowery language of Obama being concerned that "disadvantaged people" don't have access to credit, is cold hard fact that means he wants more subprime loans.

THIS IS WHAT CRASHED THE ECONOMY IN 2008!

I think the comments section of this article say it best. This crap about "helping the disadvantaged" has not fooled the readers of the article:

jimlayMay 12, 2011 6:13 AM GMT Since when is it discrimination to insist on a rational repayment plan? We are not talking "reparations" here, we're talking about mortgages. A person's financial track record is the ONLY valid measure of their willingness and ability to pay back the loan. A bank is not a charity.

roseMay 12, 2011 6:12 AM GMT The newest Acorn evolution to crash the US economy. Investigate the Justice Dept.Abolish the Federal Reserve.

DaveMay 12, 2011 6:10 AM GMT Good gawd almighty won't these idiots EVER learn? Obama and company is starting this crap again? As if we didn't have enough freekin' problems climbing out of the last sub-prime mess and STILL clawing our way out! This is f-ckin' nuts. Gawd please please rush 2012 so sane Americans can DUMP these retards!!!!!!!

And it goes on and on and on. 406 comments and most were EXTREMELY NEGATIVE to the idea.

What we have here is Obama trying to deliberately TANK the Economy while paying out goodies to the voters he hopes will keep him in office.

2012 can't come soon enough!

I have a 400,000 dollar house that's worth about half that. Thank you Clinton, Dodd, and Frank. Not enough credit is given to the housing crisis for its part in causing the recession. It wasn't the sole reason, but sure played a big part. Someone had better start running this country with sound economic principles rather than the social models that is bringing it to its knees.

The Subprime mess was a HUGE part of the economic mess and it started with Jimmy Carter's bright idea to bring credit to the "disadvantaged."

Then Clinton doubled down on the same idea.

Bush tried to reform the mess but Democrats blocked any effort to reform Fannie Mae to protect Franklin Raines.

Now Obama wants to bring the WHOLE MESS BACK, when we haven't recovered from the last round.

Remember THIS when you vote next year!

TPS

The secret to understanding is to look at what people do, rather than what they say they're doing.

That is as true with Obama as it is for every other POTUS.

When the economy went into meltdown, what class was saved on the tax payers's dime and what class was left dangling in the wind?

And which two most recent administrations BOTH did that?

Keep digging for the facts, amigo.

I have confidence that sooner or later you're going to figure out how the grand scam actually works.

Try again, and this time drop the conspiracy theory. :cuckoo:

CRA didn't cause the financial crisis. That's a fairy tale.

Fannie & Freddie did cause the financial crisis!

Bubbles are caused by the creation of excess credit. The GSEs contributed by leveraging their balance sheets 50:1 debt to equity. But this is no different than Wall Street, who also expanded their balance sheets, only to a lesser degree They also contributed by following the financial industry in loosening underwriting standards. But they weren't the genesis of the crisis.

One of Obama's former ACORN friends was caught by Glenn Beck talking about this. He was caught talking about crashing the banking system on purpose this month.

The spotlight is on them so they have to be careful not to do it in an obvious manner. Obama has started the dialog by using the DOJ. Pretty soon they will be justifying it by claiming once again that Fat-cat bankers are causing the friggen problem.

Meanwhile, he releases a new detail every day about intel from the Bin Laden raid.....merely to distract us.

If the CRA caused the financial crisis, please explain how it was that 24 out of the 25 largest subprime lenders were not subject to the CRA. Thanks.

The CRA wasn't the only source of the problem. Anyone who knows our economy also knows it takes a nudge to get a snowball effect going. The market is always volatile. Do the wrong thing and you've got problems.

I'm not gonna go any deeper into because all you'll do is do the usual. Say I'm full of crap.

You can use that reasoning for anything. "59 years ago, Milton Friedman said there should be no regulation of new financial products. So in 1999 a law was passed barring regulations of derivatives, which caused the financial crisis. Therefore, Friedman is the cause of the financial crisis." See how easy that is? You have to have something tangible. And there is nothing tangible in the CRA meme. In fact all the empirical data speaks against it.
