Don't Fund Obamacare

On October 1st, millions of Americans will be required to enroll in Obamacare and could lose access to their doctors and be forced to pay higher premiums and higher taxes. But there's still time to stop it. Republicans in Congress can stop Obamacare if they refuse to fund it.

Here's how to do it...

Portman: No Funds for Obamacare Individual Mandate -- ‘I Would Support That’
July 26, 2013 -- Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) said that if there is a vote on an appropriations bill that would prohibit funding for the individual mandate in Obamacare, he would support it.
“f there's a vote, if we can get a vote on an appropriations bill saying no funds shall be used for the individual mandate, I would support that,” Portman told CNSNews.com on Capitol Hill on Wednesday. CNSNews.com had asked the senator if he supported Sen. Mike Lee’s (R-Utah) initiative to oppose funding of the government in the new fiscal year (starting Oct. 1) if it provides monies for any further implementation of Obamacare, including the individual mandate that is slated to kick in on Jan. 1, 2014.

CNSNews.com asked Portman, "Do you agree with Senator Mike Lee's (R-Utah) upcoming proposition with the continuing resolution that any funding for the individual mandate in Obamacare should be blocked since the individual mandate for big corporations has already been delayed [by the president]?" Portman said, “I don’t know the – does he have a bill to do this? I'd very much be in favor of delaying the individual mandate and I'd need to look at his bill in terms of how you would do it, but I think if there's a vote, if we can get a vote on an appropriations bill saying no funds shall be used for the individual mandate, I would support that." The individual mandate requires all Americans, with a few exceptions for strictly religious persons, to carry health insurance, from their employer, on their own, or through the government or pay a penalty to the IRS.

This week, Senator Lee released a letter that he and other Republicans plan to send to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) , stating their opposition to fund the government past Sept. 30 through a continuing resolution, or CR, if it includes funding for any further implementation of Obamacare. Part of the letter reads, “f Democrats will not agree with Republicans that Obamacare must be repealed, perhaps they can at least agree with the president that the law cannot be implemented as written. If the administration will not enforce the law as written, then the American people should not be forced to fund it. “The president cannot seriously expect to waive Obamacare’s onerous mandates on large businesses, while simultaneously forcing individuals and families to pay to implement an individual mandate the public has opposed since before the law was even passed. For these reasons, we will not support any continuing resolution or appropriations legislation that funds further implementation or enforcement of Obamacare.”

The administration has postponed implementation of the employer mandate for large businesses until 2015 but the mandate for smaller businesses and individuals is slated to go into effect on Jan. 1, 2014. In addition to Lee, 11 other Senate Republicans have signed the letter so far and include Sens. Marco Rubio (Fla.), James Risch (Idaho), Ted Cruz (Texas), Mike Enzi (Wyoming), John Thune (S.D.), James Inhofe (Okla.), Chuck Grassley (Iowa), Rand Paul (Ky.), David Vitter (La.), Deb Fischer (Neb.) and Jeff Chisea (N.J.). A Lee spokesman on Friday morning confirmed the names on the letter to CNSNews.com.

Sen. Sessions: We Should Do Everything We Can to Undo Obamacare
July 26, 2013 -- Senator Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) said that members of Congress must do everything in their power to block the individual mandate in President Obama's signature health care law from going into effect in 2014.
On Capitol Hill Wednesday, CNSNews.com asked Sessions: "Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) wants the upcoming continuing resolution (CR) to include language that prohibits funding for the individual mandate in Obamacare because the [similar] mandate for big corporations has already been postponed. Do you agree with Senator Lee and do you think funding for the individual mandate should be halted?" "We should do everything that we can to block that... (to) undo Obamacare,” Sessions responded.

Lee has spent the last two weeks stating that he will refuse to vote for any continuing resolution that continues to fund the federal government past September 30th if it includes funding for the individual mandate component of Obamacare. “The remedy is for Congress to refuse to fund the implementation of the program that the president insists is not ready to be implemented,” said Lee in an interview with CNSNews.com on July 11.

On July 2, the Obama administration announced that the section of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that requires employers to provide health insurance to employees would be postponed a year until 2015. But the individual mandate is still slated to go into effect in 2014. “Right now, this is the last stop before Obamacare fully kicks in on Jan. 1 of next year, for us to refuse to fund it." Lee told FOX News Monday. "It would be irresponsible at this point for Congress to pass any appropriations measure and any continuing resolution that would contain funding for the ongoing, further enforcement and implementation of Obamacare as long as these conditions remain in place.” Lee sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) stating that "if the administration will not enforce the law as written, then the American people should not be forced to fund it."

A spokesman for Lee confirmed Friday morning that the letter was signed by 12 Senate Republicans, including Sens. Marco Rubio (Fla.), James Risch (Idaho), Ted Cruz (Texas), Mike Enzi (Wyoming), John Thune (S.D.), James Inhofe (Okla.), Chuck Grassley (Iowa), Rand Paul (Ky.), David Vitter (La.), Deb Fischer (Neb.) and Jeff Chisea (N.J.). Sessions was among the 34 Republican Senators who have yet to sign on. A similar measure is being undertaken in the House by Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.). But House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) remained non-committal. "No decision has been made about how we're going to deal with the CR next month, in September," Boehner said when asked Thursday about the proposal by CNSNews.com.

To my knowledge, Walt is correct. Your current insurance won't change, your doctor isn't gonna quit, the IRS won't haul you off to answer Bill O'Reilly's really stupid accusations BUT, your premiums will go down just as others' already have. Including mine.

As for dear old Trixie, I gotta say, I don't know what's gonna happen with the Republican socialist EMTALA, currently in place but Trixie will have to pay according to her income. But, if I understand correctly, just as it is now with the Republican socialist EMTALA, currently in place, if she has no income, she doesn't have to pay.

The bottom line is that "Obamacare" has turned over the entire health care industry to the discretion of the Department of Health and Human Services. Does anyone know where this will lead? Is anyone happy with the thought of even greater government control over our lives? It seems that we are debating something we still know little or nothing about. Is this the way our democracy is supposed to work?

A majority of Americans do not want this BS bill to be implemented.. this thing will destroy the American healthcare system and will also destroy the healthcare insurance industry in long run.
Not to mention it is UNconstitutional.. hence calling it a "tax".

Do you folks want the same IRS that targeted conservatives to be in control of your healthcare?

This thing has got to be defunded PERIOD... no more of these silly "votes" to repeal. Thats a huge waste of time, & is just window dressing for the idiots out there.

DEFUNDING it is the only way to stop it.

If you have insurance thru your job & they decide it is too expensive for them to offer it as a benefit (which most will end up doing), YES.. you will be forced into it.

That's the long term goal..

Plus.. a ton of employers will just make their employees into part time workers to avoid the extra costs associated with the new law.
