First define it, next explain how you would recognize a leader?

Finally, describe the characteristics a person must have for you to support them for POTUS?

    Don't peek:

Leaders have a vision which is constantly corrected by new discoveries, the have a keen and open mind and are not intimidated by challenges or deterred by doubt.

When a leader speaks, you listen and what you don't hear is his/her effort to gain power and popularity by arousing the emotions, passions and prejudices of the people. You hear reason; problems defined, potential solutons discussed and his/her vision on the best course to set.

Leadership is the ability to clearly communicate a vision for the future. A leader is able to offer not only the vision but an honest assessment of its cost-benefits and potential roadblocks, as well as a critical assessement of its overall impacts. A leader orchestrates the mission so that each follower understands their role and responsibilities. S/he delegates authority to trained lieutenants who consistently provide feedback on milestones reached and assesses any failures, without a need to assign blame, simply to understand, correct and move forward.

In addition to the above, they need to have real-world experience.

Don't know about that. But they do have to study human nature and inspire confidence. They do have to get their hands and boots dirty.

So that eliminates Chicken hawks as appropriate Commanders-in-Chief. You're suggesting a do as I do managment style I assume. I agree with the caveat noted below. There are few things worse than a boss who orders subordinates to do what s/he is unwilling to do.

This does not mean that the boss needs to have the skills necessary and sufficient to accomplish all tasks associated with his/her vision or the tasks needed to fulfill the mission. Only that s/he must not put staff into harms way where s/he wouldn't go under any circumstances.

And just think... at one time the Germans thought hitler was a GREAT leader.

A leader is only a leader as defined by his followers.

Your ignorance of history is amazing. Instilling Fear and Hate in the heart and minds of a nation isn't leadership; and notice honesty is a fundamental characteristic of a true leader.
