Deceptive temperature record claims

satellites and weather balloons dont agree with temperature stations that are adjusted to match expectations.

Here we go again. The proven ignoramouses insisting that 2% of the Earth's surface record is more important than the other 98%. And, if you include Alaska's record in that, rather than just the lower 48, you will see that the whole of the US is also warming, on the average.

^ irony.

When the guy who dismisses 2% land uses events on a tiny fraction of 2% land as irrefutable "proof" of his flawed, failed theory

Alaska's size compared with the 48 contiguous states. (Albers equal-area conic projection)
Alaska is the largest state in the United States in land area at 663,268 square miles (1,717,856 km2)

Now Mr. CrusaderFrank, we understand that your third grade education did not include geography, so here you go. As you can see, Alaska is somewhat more than a tiny fraction of the area of the lower 48.

To reiterate: You discounted the USA because it's only 2% of the land mass, but you're now highlighting an event on an area less than the 2%.
wouldn't that be .5%? He stated the USA is 2%, so Alaska would be about a quarter based on his map.

You have to ask him, it must be common core math where a US state is greater than the USA

I know. funny how the USA doesn't matter until they need money.

And then they scheme up ways to steal it from us ..

Of course, now the deniers must claim that the records being kept by the various nations are frauds, for they are showing a record year in the offing for 2015. So that is the new meme for those in denial of reality.

Actually Rocks -- I'll concede 2015 and we both know why of course. Has NOTHING to do GW or the pause. And if that El Nino effect is large enough and does NOT show in the sat records, but shows in the surface records, I'll be a bit dubious myself.. You need the fall and winter to set up a West Coast moisture pattern to create the anomaly.

That "anomaly" is falling apart already. We would have to loose the high pressure over the gulf of Alaska and if the current cooling trend persists, it will be gone in about three-six weeks or so allowing the flow to drop south. Cali would probably like the rain though..

Falling apart my ass.

That data gets updated monthly, as it ought.

And the comment isn't out of date as you've been predicting the collapse of this el Nino for many months. You began 'participating' in the "Tracking the el Nino" thread on day one: 26 April. Your message, that the el Nino is about to collapse and you're much smarter than the PhDs at NOAA, and NCDC, has not changed... Despite the fact that your batting average in this argument has been .000.

Ever notice that the story is framed that temperatures are just getting back to where they should be during El Nino but that temperatures are artificially low during LA Ninas?

I have noticed deniers, and only deniers, framing the story that way, yes. They constantly do that with their "No warming since 1998!" big lie.

So, does this mean you're going to stop using the "the 1998 El Ninos was normal!" big lie, and call out other deniers for using that big lie?

Again, status and graphs. All Billy has ever posted. You are a liar stating he predicted anything with el nino. Post up the number of his post that stated he predicts no el nino. Please just one.

You stumbled upon a paper, but cannot link us to it here? And we are to consider that evidence?

Don't act so helpless Rocks. Finding this stuff is about as hard as 5th grade book report.

The urban heat island in winter at Barrow, Alaska - Hinkel - 2003 - International Journal of Climatology - Wiley Online Library

Abstract
The village of Barrow, Alaska, is the northernmost settlement in the USA and the largest native community in the Arctic. The population has grown from about 300 residents in 1900 to more than 4600 in 2000. In recent decades, a general increase of mean annual and mean winter air temperature has been recorded near the centre of the village, and a concurrent trend of progressively earlier snowmelt in the village has been documented. Satellite observations and data from a nearby climate observatory indicate a corresponding but much weaker snowmelt trend in the surrounding regions of relatively undisturbed tundra. Because the region is underlain by ice-rich permafrost, there is concern that early snowmelt will increase the thickness of the thawed layer in summer and threaten the structural stability of roads, buildings, and pipelines. Here, we demonstrate the existence of a strong urban heat island (UHI) during winter. Data loggers (54) were installed in the ∼150 km2 study area to monitor hourly air and soil temperature, and daily spatial averages were calculated using the six or seven warmest and coldest sites. During winter (December 2001–March 2002), the urban area averaged 2.2 °C warmer than the hinterland. The strength of the UHI increased as the wind velocity decreased, reaching an average value of 3.2 °C under calm (<2 m s−1) conditions and maximum single-day magnitude of 6 °C. UHI magnitude generally increased with decreasing air temperature in winter, reflecting the input of anthropogenic heat to maintain interior building temperatures. On a daily basis, the UHI reached its peak intensity in the late evening and early morning. There was a strong positive relation between monthly UHI magnitude and natural gas production/use. Integrated over the period September–May, there was a 9% reduction in accumulated freezing degree days in the urban area. The evidence suggests that urbanization has contributed to early snowmelt in the village. Copyright © 2003 Royal Meteorological Society

Now do understand why Hadley data should go DOWN not UP with Urban HeatIsland compensation?
So much screwing around --- it's not funny... Sorry Ian for butting in... I had the 20 seconds to kill by googling "urban heat island" and "barrow alaska".. :booze:
