In spring 2003, award-winning filmmaker James Miller and reporter Saira Shah, set out to take a first-hand look at the culture of hate that permeates the Middle East. They captured the lives of three Palestinian children growing up in the bullet-riddled streets of Gaza. Although James and Saira had planned to film the lives of Israeli children as well, in the midst of production, Miller was shot to death by an Israeli tank, falling victim to the very conflict he covered.

I saw this new film last night, which will repeat over the weekend on HBO.

The footage from the end when Miller was shot, there was no muzzle flash from the Israeli position.

Since the film ends soon after I wonder why this murder, body, bullets, UK forensic reports, and subsequent EU condemnations haven't materialized to
back up the claim of cold blooded murder made by the narrator, and how come there is no Isreali investigation into this case.

Why not a calculated Palestinian murder instead?

without having seen the footage, I couldn't really say. I will say that there isn't always a noticeable muzzle flash from rifle fire during the day.

If any of the folks have HBO, it's on 3:30 AM this evening (Pacific time) and then replayed right after and perhaps later throughout the weekend.

Fascinating documentary, and it's telling how in the end, instead of an equal time spend with Jewish children the IDF kills their film producer.

Or so it's narrated.

Miller's death is taken from footage at night, over a field of view facing the Isreali positions.

I only saw it once, but I did not notice any muzzle flashes, and they would have definately shown up, black as night it was.

I think when the Muslim lady narrating took this over, the whole point was supposed to mean the IDF killed Miller.

When CNN interviews her about the events following (which are cut and we don't hear of at all), she admits the IDF was first to respond to her calls and actually came out of cover to assist them, providing escort and means to return back into Isreal.

Along with the body. Which was examined by a Jewish doctor who was himself observed by a UK counterpart.

You won't hear of any of these details in her closing segment. Instead it seems they 'escaped' fromt the gunfire, returned to the city, and saw posters with Miller as a martyr (pre-printed)?

Note Miller produced the documentary of Afganistan women, "Behind the Veil".

Maybe some Islamic fundamentalist didn't like it?

Sounds like an interesting documentary to watch. I think the more independent docs we have the better it is for everyone else.

Reqarding him being killed by idf. Here is a quote from the website (link provided by comrade)
Later that night, attempting to leave the area by waving a white flag through the darkness, Miller assumes that the Israeli soldiers - actually Bedouin Arabs, equipped with night-vision gear, who had earlier been calling out to the journalists in Arabic - will recognize him as a journalist and let his team pass. Instead, shots ring out, killing Miller instantly. The tragedy is captured by a local film crew
I do not want to point fingers or judge (since i have not see it or been there at the time), but if you are in the battle zone, why would you try to leave after the darkness has settled in and using white flag to signal? Would not you try to orange stuff with both sides before hand? just a thought

They weren't 'leaving' as much as they were attempting to contact the IDF camp and either interview or be escorted out by them.

If they wanted to leave they would have not walked into the center from the front door, and instead I assume there was a back exit they could have really left from.

ok, in any case would not your try to talk to them before hand, while it is light outside and let them know you will be done and ready at xxx time, especially when you are in the 'border' area? maybe i just making a mountain out of nothing. i should see it first. thank you
