Dayton Caves on Minnesota Budget

Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton wanted to raise taxes on the wealthy as part of his solution to the states debt.
Why?

Study finds Minnesota's tax system still regressive

High-income Minnesotans continue to pay lower overall tax rates than everyone else, according to a new tax incidence study released today by the Minnesota Department of Revenue.

<snip>

The overall state and local tax burden averaged 11.5 percent of income in 2008. The state's highest-income taxpayers — the 10 percent of households earning more than $130,000 — paid an effective tax rate of 10.3 percent. The remaining 90 percent of low- and middle-income households paid a substantially higher effective tax rate of 12.3 percent.

How can anyone blame Dayton for wanting to level the playing field regarding the effective tax rate for all Minnesotans?

So all Minnesotans pay tax and the wealthy aren't paying enough?

Or, as with the rest of the country, are 50% of Minnesotans not paying tax at all and this 'level playing field' is really just wanting someone else to pay more so the lazy and illiterate don't have to?

Fuck 'em.

The very least we can do is STOP paying REBATES to those who pay ZERO Federal or State Tax.

This response is for both Cali and Willow,,,,obviously the tax disparity applies to those who pay taxes, so why the hate and the deflection. Is it too much to ask for a level paying field for all those who pay taxes???

Oh well, one is a newspaper, the other's business is more or less entertainment.
Really? That's what you're going to try and sell?
Then if it's a NEWSpaper and not a business, why does it charge for it's content or ad space?

Fucking moron. Don't hand me that non-partisan crap.

Hey what do you know, the State of Minnesota is still here. They didn't explode and disappear from the face of Earth after all. Their Shutdown was actually a good thing. They got a deal done. And not raising the Debt Limit wont be the end of the U.S. either. It's all just stupid Fear Mongering. They do that before before their Wars and passing spending debacles like Stimulus Packages. They have to try to scare the Sheep. Minnesota is still here and so will the U.S. whether or not the Debt Limit is raised. Personally,i think they shouldn't raise the Debt Limit. Not raising it will force them to make big cuts immediately. This Country will still be here after not raising it. Many people will be shocked once they realize not raising the Debt Limit really isn't the end of the World. Minnesota just found this out.

Minnesota governor collapses while addressing legislators
Jan 23 2017 - Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton collapsed on Monday while delivering his state-of-the-state address to legislators in St. Paul, but aides said afterward that Dayton quickly recovered from what they described as a fainting spell and returned home.
A video clip from official statehouse footage posted on YouTube showed the 69-year-old, silver-haired governor pausing to take a sip of water, then slurring his words as he tried to resume his address before slumping at the lectern. He appeared to hit his forehead on the lectern as he lost his footing and aides rushed to grab him. Gasps rose from the assembly hall and someone was heard saying, "Get him to the ground, get him to the ground, please." Lawmakers immediately adjourned the session while Dayton, a member of the Democratic-affiliated Minnesota Democratic Farmer-Labor Party, was attended to.

Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton speaks on the final night of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The Minneapolis Star Tribune said Dayton appeared to be seated upright and aware some moments afterward. The episode came about 40 minutes into Dayton's speech to a joint session of the state legislature, according to a statement released by his chief of staff, Scott Kendall. "He quickly recovered, walked out of the Capitol and turned home," Kendall said, adding that emergency medical technicians met Dayton at his home and performed a "routine check" on him there. "He is now spending time with his son and grandson" and would present his 2017 budget to legislators on Tuesday morning as planned. Gubernatorial spokesman Sam Fettig said the governor, now midway through his second four-year term, did not go to a hospital.

Fettig declined to say what might have caused the governor's collapse but said he believed Dayton to be otherwise in good health. Dayton's son, Eric, posted a separate message on Twitter saying, "I'm with my dad now and he's doing great. Thank you all for your kind well-wishes and words of concern." Dayton was briefly hospitalized about a year ago after fainting while speaking during an event in the St. Paul suburb of Woodbury. Aides said then that he was treated for dehydration before being released. Dayton served six years at a U.S. senator from Minnesota before he was elected to his first term as governor in 2010.
