Sen. David Vitter is blaming Louisiana’s loss of a congressional seat on the large number of illegal immigrants he says are living in other states.

By including illegal immigrants in the new 2010 census population counts, Vitter contends the federal government is penalizing states that don’t “welcome” them.

“Louisiana stands to lose clout in Congress, while states that welcome illegal immigrants stand to unfairly benefit from artificially inflated population totals,” the Republican senator said in a statement Tuesday.

Louisiana will have six seats in the U.S. House after the new reapportionment, instead of the seven or eight it’s had throughout the past century.

“Even though we’ve been expecting this, the confirmation that Louisiana will lose a congressional seat is frustrating,” Vitter said.

Census forms do not require residents to reveal their citizenship status, said Robert Bernstein, a public affairs specialist at the Census Bureau. “We made the attempt to count everyone who was actually residing here,” he said. “We don’t ask that question about someone’s legal status.”

In 2009, though, Vitter tried unsuccessfully to force a question about citizenship status onto the census questionnaire, he said, to “prevent the counting of illegal immigrants for the purpose of apportionment.”

The more I read about the issue of illegal immigration, the more I am convinced that our Federal Government has lost its motherfucking mind. How the fuck do you justify allowing illegals to be included in the Census if that ends up giving certain states more representation in the House of Representatives? That should have been illegal from the very start. It gives our fucking Federal Government INCENTIVE to INVITE them if we play by these rules. Man, we are so fucked. The states are fucked. The people are fucked. We might as well ALL be fucked by Jose's Famous Habanero Pepper...

So now we know why conservative states are gaining more seats in the house....

Illegal immigrants will inflate some southwest and southeast states for the purpose of adding Congressional districts, but they can't vote.

    Oh, the irony.

But our representatives BENEFIT from their existence. They have a VESTED INTREST in not only keeping those who are here, but in adding to their numbers. Revere, I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but even an idiot like me can see that this is seriously fucked up.

Well Louisiana was going to lose population regardless, mainly due to Hurricane Katrina. As for counting illegal immigrants-that's not the only problem. I got TWO cards for the census, one at my permanent address in Florida, and one at my address when I was in school in New York. Doesn't make much sense, they can't even figure out how to send 1 card, for every 1 citizen. They only have ten years to plan for it?

Regardless, my home state of Texas is filling up like a fucking stadium and the illegals responsible for "creating" new seats SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN COUNTED. UNLESS YOU ARE GOING TO GIVE THESE PEOPLE FULL CITIZENSHIP, YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO USE THEM FOR POLITICAL GAIN. Our Federal Government is breaking the fucking law, pure and simple.

I completely agree. counting them to see how many total people (including illegal immigrants) is one thing. Counting them towards shifts in congressional seats is completely different-and just isn't right. I think everyone should be able to agree on this.

I heard a rumor that it is estimated by 2015 there will be 150 million illegal’s in the US. I feel at this rate it will inevitable that US citizens will have to take matters in their own hands. There needs to be rallies at our politician’s main offices or at the state capitals. I know it hard but we need to stop electing Latinos to any office and stop electing politicians that defends illegal immigration. As Americans we need to find ways of putting pressure on states that won’t take an active part in enforcing our laws on immigration. The economic gain of removing those here illegally far out weigh how hard it will be to remove them and secure the borders. Americans, let your voices be heard, make your intentions clear and settle for nothing lees than victory!!!!! And if that don’t work kill em all and God sort them out.
