Dave Parker, Former MVP, Battling Parkinson's

I hate to see this happen. My Dad suffered from Parkinson's for ten years before it killed him. Not a pretty thing to watch.

Much as I hated to see Cobra play against my team, he always had my respect. He was a beast at the plate, and you took an extra base on his laser arm only in your dreams. You couldn't help admiring his talent.

Parker, from the article:
"There's no fear, I've had a great life. I always dreamt of playing baseball, and I played. I'm 62 years old and fortunate to make it to this point. I have some beautiful kids that I got to watch grow up and become adults. My fingerprints are on the baseball industry. I feel good about that. I have nothing to feel bad about."

A class act.

The legendary singer announced the news on Monday

A statement published on his website on Monday evening said: "The onset of the disease has made it difficult to travel and perform on a large scale basis but will allow Mr. Diamond to continue his writing, recording and development of new projects. "Based on his doctors’ advice, the third leg of Diamond’s 50th Anniversary tour, set to land in Australia and New Zealand this March, has been cancelled."

The US musician, who turns 77 on Wednesday, said: “It is with great reluctance and disappointment that I announce my retirement from concert touring. "I have been so honoured to bring my shows to the public for the past 50 years. "My sincerest apologies to everyone who purchased tickets and were planning to come to the upcoming shows. "I plan to remain active in writing, recording and other projects for a long time to come. "My thanks goes out to my loyal and devoted audiences around the world. You will always have my appreciation for your support and encouragement. "This ride has been ‘so good, so good, so good’ thanks to you.”

You know the crazy thing about Parker is, as big a guy as he was, he didn't hit that many homers in his career. His biggest season was 34, and he only hit 339 over 21 seasons.

No, he only hit 339 home runs over 21 seasons. He didn't hit .339. :) He hit .290 over his career which isn't bad for a big man.

That's still not bad. I could live with that. :)
