Journalism Legend Daniel Schorr Dies At 93 : NPR

Daniel Schorr, a longtime senior news analyst for NPR and a veteran Washington journalist who broke major stories at home and abroad during the Cold War and Watergate, has died. He was 93.

Schorr, who once described himself as a "living history book," passed away Friday morning at a Washington hospital. He was able to bring to contemporary news commentary a deep sense of how governmental institutions and players operate, as well as the perspective gained from decades of watching history upfront.

"He could compare presidents from Eisenhower on through, and that gave him historical context for things," said Donald A. Ritchie, Senate historian and author of a book about the Washington press corps. "He had lived it, he had worked it and he had absorbed it. That added a layer to his broadcasting that was hard for somebody his junior to match."

I actually met Mr. Schorr once and he was a fascinating gentle man.

He's one of the main people Dick Nixon went after during paranoid crusades in office.

One of the funniest things that happened during that era was when Schorr was cold-reading the Nixon Enemies List on the air. He got to #17, it was his own name!

Solid newsman.

Pity not more such as he are investigating the Obama administration with the same zeal his era investigated Nixon - there is likely much to uncover...

He was a Jew, and he hated this country and its traditional people. His goal wasn't to report the news, it was to fire shots at figures like Nixon, who Jews knew didn't like them. But since he holds the microphone and Robert Siegel eulogizes him, you don't really get THAT perspective on NPR, do you?

Always the reader of minds and motives - have you ever thought about looking into your own. "The suspicious mind believes more than it doubts. It believes in a formidable and ineradicable evil lurking in every person." Eric Hoffer

"The remarkable thing is that we really love our neighbors as ourselves: we do unto others as we do unto ourselves. We hate others when we hate ourselves. We are tolerant of others when we tolerate ourselves. We forgive others when we forgive ourselves." Eric Hoffer

Daniel Schorr hated the Indians? Fascinating!

Who says you can't learn anything at stormfront?

Oh, he still was providing excellent commentary on NPR. I'm sorry to hear this. I didn't know the was that old, his mind was still sharp as a tack.

His commentaries were always rambling and pointless. He was getting senile. But, like Robert Morgenathau, we must suffer our 90-year-old power Jews -- they're like mini-gods, you see. Can't tell them to step aside. What if we told JEWS IN GENERAL to step aside? Would that be anti-Semitic? Who invited them to our country?
