On a hill
Had quite the scare this morning.... I received an email with a subject line of "your password is *******" and had my correct name. The password is valid.
The body of the email is basically a ransom. The sender says they hacked a website you go on and hacked your account and will send all of your contacts an email with porn pictures you supposedly viewed. They go on to say they also hacked your laptop and took a picture of you while looking at the screen to make the email look real. (The email will say look here is "***" looking at this porn site...look at what he is viewing!!" Doesn't matter you didn't look at it, or that it is a lie...it is enough obviously that people you know get this email!

1) The password is a valid password I have used, only I have not used it in several-several years. This was my first hint this wasn't real. But how the f*ck did they get my work email, right name and a valid password??
2) I searched on the web, and this is a new attack people are getting. Basically via old hacks on various websites, they buy people's names and known internet accounts they used and the password they used on it. They purchase it off the dark web.

Good thing is, it is fake....but very convincing.
Had me sweating.
Anyhow, if you get one of these emails...don't sweat it. It's fake.

It never stops.

My friend's kid got the "ransomware" thing.

Yeah, I took care of that. Hehehehehe.

Oh no, it was all into the startup, I wiped it and put a fresh OS and she was up and running in 15 minutes.

No, I have never extracted the ransomware, it could probably be done with Linux and another computer, though. Probably need some BCDedit action, too. There's a comparable Linux program for that, as well.

Scared the shit out of me, and I don't easily scare. My true name and a valid password as a subject line will get your attention real quick!

Malwarebytes will wipe it out.

It sounds to me like they got hold of one of the major players' email name/pw list.

That's not good. No it's not.

I have accounts tied to those, not much real money, but still money.

I isolate the real money from online things.

Here is a story on it.........

People are being victimized by a terrifying new email scam where attackers claim they stole your password and hacked your webcam while you were watching porn — here's how to protect yourself

Your better than I am. After the HD's have been cleared, I do a low-level format which takes at least half a day and installing a fresh windows O/S also takes just as long. Not including the hours spent tweaking things, it takes me at least a day in a half.

Well, if your watching clean, wholesome porn, these kinds of scares don't happen to you.
