Dalton Trumbo....Re-Polished

Well....Trumbo did blacklist any conservative and anti-communist screenplays, and films....

...but he certainly didn't do as much for Joseph Stalin as Franklin Roosevelt did.

Yes, Trumbo wrote such pro communist films as Thirty Second Over Tokyo, Roman Holiday, The Brave One, Exodus and Spartacus.
PC is correct, Trumbo had nothing to do with containing Russia and Stalin to influence and control of only the regions Russia had historically had control and influence over and most of whom had sided with the Nazi's in the war.

A review of Dalton Trumbo's history will reveal why he is the perfect candidate to be anointed "hero" by the Lies-and-Crimes Party, the Democrats.

1. When the American public learned of and showed their revulsion to, the influence of Stalinists in Roosevelt's administration, and the opinion makers of Hollywood, he refused to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee(HUAC) in 1947 during the committee's investigation of Communist influences in the motion picture industry.

2. Trumbo aligned himself with the Communist Party USA before the 1940s, "But for much of his life—he died in 1976—the writer acted as an appendage to Joe Stalin. He yearned for Communism to come to the United States, by force and violence if necessary (although his still-substantial fan base will never admit it). Trumbo’s allegiance to Communism is beyond dispute." Coulter and Her Critics | Human Events

a. "Joining the Communist Party was not on a par with belonging to the Rotary Club. If you remained for any length of time, this meant your primary loyalty was to the Soviet Union, that you were a willing agent of Joseph Stalin’s murderous regime, and that you were capable of doing almost anything—betraying your own country, spying for Russia, shilling for Moscow or closely allying yourself with Adolph Hitler—to bring about the absolute destruction of liberty in the West." Ibid.

b.This Joseph Stalin:
"Dyadkin estimated that the USSR suffered 56 to62 million"unnatural deaths" during that period, with 34 to 49 million directly linked to Stalin. In “Europe A History,” British historian Norman Davies counted50 million killed between1924-53, excluding wartime casualties." How Many People Did Joseph Stalin Kill?

Need more?

Coming right up.

3.Dalon Trumbo, like any good communist, began a blacklisting of the other side before he became subject of an anti-communist blacklisting. The scholar Kenneth Billingsley found that Trumbo wrote in The Daily Worker about films which he said communist influence in Hollywood had prevented from being made: among them were proposed adaptations of Arthur Koestler's anti-totalitarian works Darkness at Noon and The Yogi and the Commissar, which described the rise of communism in Russia. Kenneth Billingsley, "Hollywood's Missing Movies: Why American films have ignored life under communism",Reason Magazine, June 2000

4. Not the House Committee on Un-American Activities, or Senator McCarthy, but the American public that turned on the communists who ran many industries and the Roosevelt adminsitration- FDR has a spy of Stalin's actually living in the White House (Harry Hopkins)
Beginning in 1950, McCarthy became the most visible public figure to object to Communist infiltration of the United States government. A 1954 Gallup poll found that Joe McCarthy was the fourth on its list of most admired men. The Real McCarthy Record, Page 5

Of course, that was before the media was taken over by communists and communist supporters.

a. "A June 1950 poll found 45 percent expressed unqualified approval of McCarthy saying "he is anxious to rid us of communists and he is right"; 16 percent expressed qualified approval with remarks such as "there must be some foundation for his charges, but they are greatly exaggerated";31 percent disbelieved McCarthy saying he is "a rabble-rouser seeking personal glory who is trying to get reelected"; 8 percent were unsure what to make of McCarthy."
Cold War International History Conference: Paper by John White

b. In the following I see the same kind of "White House pressure" to aid another totalitarian entity: Iran.
"More than a dozen senators told McCarthy that they did not want to vote against him [a censure vote] but had to because of the tremendous pressure being put on them by the White House and by leaders of both political parties."
Ibid.

Perhaps you'd like to see more of the evidence?

No prob.

5. What were he harsh penalties communists such as Trumbo had to suffer when the blacklist was in effect? When anti-communism took its toll in Hollywood, the blacklisting took the “deadly” form of not having ones name in the credits, or living in Paris, or not being able to sell a teleplay for as much as three years. This for folks who had no problem with Ukrainian farmers and their children eating their shoes.

Trumbo continued to live like a king during the 'blacklist.'

a. His fine for contempt of Congress was $1,000...This was the extent of his 'suffering'.

" It was he who had come up with the idea of a movie about a reporter and a princess on the loose in Rome. Paramount paid $50,000 for what it assumed to be Ian's (but was really Trumbo's) first draft, and hired him to do a rewrite... The result, much to Ian's (and Trumbo's) surprise, was a wonderful movie, starring Gregory Peck and the unknown Audrey Hepburn." In 1953Roman Holidaywon the Academy Award for the best screenplay (Trumbo did not get credit for this work until after the blacklist was lifted)." Dalton Trumbo

Poor, poor supporter of Stalin's genocides......the suffering.

6. And this was the intention of Trumbo and his Stalinists...

"Six years afterthe Democratson the select committee branded Wirt a liar, one of the members, Democrat John J. O'Connor (Democrat, NY) "confessed in a statement today that he had helped prevent a thorough investigation in 1934 of charges by the late Dr. William A. Wirt thata group of New Dealers were plotting a new American revolution....expressed belief that most of the latter's charges had come true.....there was a deliberately conceived plot among New Dealers to overthrow the established social order in this country and substitute a planned economy."
"O'Connor Admits Helping to Discredit Dr. Wirt," The Utica Observer-Dispatch, April 10, 1940.

From it's inception, the communist party was aimed at a violent revolution in the United States, a la the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia.

And here, a view of the America that Dalton Trumbo yearned for...

"Collectivization (1929-33) was the opening and defining phase of Stalin's untrammelled power: it was the first thing he did the moment his hands were free. As a crime against humanity it eclipses the Great Terror,...During Collectivization Stalin is reckoned to have killed about 4 million children. For the man himself, though, and for the man's psychology, the most salient feature of Collectivization was the abysmal depth, and gigantic reach, of its failure.....

Lenin had tried to socialize the countryside.Grain requisitioning was enforced by terror - and followed by famine. His agrarian policies also gave rise, in 1920-21, to a vast national uprising that proved a greater threat to the regime than all the armies of the Whites: part of a failed but genuine revolution that utterly dwarfed those of 1905 and February 1917.

Let us laboriouslyimagine that the ‘paradise' Trotsky promisedto ‘build' suddenly appeared on the bulldozed site of 1921.Knowing that 15 million lives had been sacrificed to its creation, would you want to live in it? A paradise so bought is no paradise."
Martin Amis, "Koba The Dread: Laughter And The Twenty Million,"

So, of course Liberals are ready to offer a major motion picture honoring Comrade Dalton Trumbo....who stood silently for what he believed.

Today is the birthday of this Communist apparatchik, the one the Democrats/Liberals love to hand-wring over.....

....claiming he was 'blacklisted'.....

.....yet he was the one who blacklisted pro-American individuals and works.

Rule #2
To know what the Left is guilty of, just watch what they blame the other side of doing.

2a. If not for double standards Liberals would have no standards at all.

"Dalton Trumbo, (born Dec. 9, 1905, Montrose, Colo., U.S.—died Sept. 10, 1976, Los Angeles),screenwriter and novelist who was probably the most talented member of the Hollywood Ten, one of a group who refused to testify before the 1947 U.S. House Committee on Un-American Activities about alleged communist involvement. He was blacklisted and in 1950 spent 11 months in prison."
