Dallas officer enters apartment she mistakes for her own, fatally shoots man inside

There really aren't any words for this. How was she able to even enter the apartment if it wasn't hers?

Dallas police said the officer called for help and told responding officers that "she entered the victim's apartment believing that it was her own."

A Dallas man was killed late Thursday when a police officer returning home from her shift entered the wrong apartment in her building and eventually opened fire, authorities said.

Details surrounding the death of Botham Shem Jean, a 26-year-old native of the Caribbean island of St. Lucia, were not immediately available early Friday.

His mother, Allie Jean, said in a phone interview that his family was stunned to learn of his death.

"He did no one any wrong," she said.

Dallas police in a statement said that preliminary information suggests the officer involved called for help, and told responding officers that "she entered the victim's apartment believing that it was her own."

The incident began just before 10 p.m. CT (11 p.m. ET) at the South Side Flats, an upscale apartment complex directly south of Dallas' downtown.

During the encounter, the officer was in full uniform and "fired her weapon striking the victim," police said.

Jean was taken to the hospital and died. The Dallas County Medical Examiner later released his identity.
There is something wrong with this picture.

This story makes no sense.

Since we haven’t heard the libtards screaming RACISM….

I assume the cop was Black…

There is no doubt this is a tragedy regardless of race.
The cop was white you moron.

Then why aren't you libtards screaming RACISM?
Because she was probably banging him. None of the white girls I banged were racist.

Dallas officer faces manslaughter charge for shooting man in apartment she thought was hers, police chief says | Crime | Dallas News

The officer who shot Jean is white, and Jean said she wondered whether the outcome would have been different if her son hadn't been black.
I agree with the manslaughter charge.

This sounds like a trigger happy female cop.

On the other hand I don't believe her story.

I think it was a lovers' spat and she was banging him.

Look anyone who is a Cop who enters his apartment, house, trailer, is going to notice right off the bat something is wrong with what he or she sees. The first thing is the door was unlocked, suspicious yes, but upon entering the light must have been on. The contents would not match your stuff, this is a strong hint that you have screwed up. Therefore I suggest that she and he have some connection of some type. The shooting only allows one side of the story be told. It almost looks like Murder at this point.
Anything is possible but you're correct about officers being particularly observant which is why I was wondering how her situational awareness could have been so off.

"Police Chief Reneé Hall said a blood sample was drawn at her request to test the officer's drug and alcohol levels and "we are in the process of obtaining a warrant based on the circumstances.""

So they're wondering, as well.
Anytime you shoot your service weapon you get blood tested.

It will be interesting to find out if she threw back a couple of shots (no pun intended) before heading home.

I am guessing she also had a key of her own.

I do know this --- if a civilian claimed this as a defense for killing someone -- that civilian will still be going to prison.

The civilian would be charged with manslaughter, same as the cop is.
Pretty much by definition it is manslaughter anytime you accidentally kill someone.

The next question is whether it was unintentional or grossly negligent.

I was visiting a friend one day and she lived in an apartment complex. It was fairly good size as well.
I have been there 100 times but one night (completely sober LOL) i walk into the wrong apartment. Door was unlocked and i even walked away to the back bedroom before i realized.
Shit happens but these circumstances are HORRIBLE

DYEHO?

Crazy violent cop doesn't recognize that she isn't in her own apartment as soon as she opens the door?

Nice racism by the way.

This story makes no sense.

Apparently, the cops think so too, hence referring it to the Texas Rangers for a full investigation.

I have no doubt the blood test is standard procedure.

I also just got the distinct impression that they thought it was quite warranted in this case, maybe because they have reason to suspect it of her, or maybe just because they're as gobsmacked by the situation as anyone else.

Okay, update on this story:

The officer's name is Amber Guyger, she has just been arrested and charged with manslaughter, she does happen to be white. Also, oddly enough, this is the second time in the four years she's been a police officer that she's shot someone. And the previous target was apparently Hispanic. Now I'm starting to wonder if she's got some issues, be it racism or being trigger-happy or both.
