Entitlement spending makes up over 55% of total spending. Combined with defense that makes up 3/4th of all spending we do. Its not a wonder that entitlements make up 50% of the proposed cuts when it makes up that much of spending. Even if we were to completely reduce defense spending to $0 spent on it, we'd still be running a $750 Billion yearly deficit. We'd need to increase our tax revenue by more than 35% to make up that different, a number you're unlikely to get just from "taxing the rich".

Military spending definitely needs to be looked at, there's no doubt. However, to suggest that its somehow unamerican to dare suggest that the thing that takes up the largest amount of our spending is also the thing that can sacrifice the most amount of spending is a bit ridiculous. Indeed, isn't the argument for why the Rich can sustain higher taxes is because they have so much of the money? Well, when it comes to the governments money, entitlements have the vast majority of it.

Government spending per day under Bush -$1.2 billion. It moved calamity closer -within 20 years now if it weren't reversed.

Government spending per day under Obama quadrupled in just ONE YEAR - and spending under Obama has been $4.1 billion A DAY since his first year in office. THIS sped up the day of total financial collapse to just SIX YEARS if it went unchanged. But revenue DROPPED so it move up the time schedule to five years and we are right on the same path as Greece with its collapse. And this deal didn't change that. Our government will STILL be spending far more per day than it takes in and has not changed the ultimate outcome. That government is somehow our proxy in the eyes of God and therefore we are ordered to gladly SUBMIT to whatever THUG can grab power? Hmm? The verse you took out of context is talking about GOD'S rule -not MAN'S! It even specifically says the government created by GOD -which doesn't exist at this time since all governments in existence right now are MAN-MADE! It doesn't have a thing to do with any government created by MAN because MAN is incapable of creating a perfect government and no matter what government he creates, it will still engage in immoralities and at times downright evil. But oh SURE -God was actually talking about the obligation of Christians to man-made governments like Nazi Germany, Soviet Union, Pol Pot, Castro, communist China and life under Saddam Hussein??? Are you going to LIE AGAIN and insist God was saying HE created those governments and not MAN? All so you can try and manipulate people into pretending a government is the ultimate authority and not GOD???? God's government doesn't exist on this earth at this time and YOU know it! And more importantly so does every REAL Christian. How dare you LIE by suggesting God created ANY government in existence on earth and then demands believers meekly kowtow to it as if it were given the authority of God Himself! You don't understand what a temple tax was, why it was imposed and who imposed it -because it has NOTHING to do with jackshit TODAY! No relevance, no bearing -nothing to do with INCOME TAXES and entitlement payments. Christians are urged to VOLUNTARILY GIVE of themselves -because God rejects what is not done by CHOICE and FREE WILL. Liberals just reject that one insisting God LIKES it when government removes the free will and just TAKES it from others. Remove the free will and you remove the value of it to GOD -and every REAL Christian KNOWS THAT. Real Christians encourage others to voluntarily GIVE of themselves in time, service, goods and money but working to impose a system of government that strips people of their free will on the issue and just forcibly TAKES it -is NOT a Christian ideal WHATSOEVER! Christianity is NOT about demanding the submission of followers to MAN-MADE institutions!

Jesus never ONCE suggested His followers should work to impose a system of government on all others and then use the power of government to forcibly TAKE from some even against their will -in order to hand it over to others. THAT is actually THEFT. It doesn't matter if its government theft or by an individual. Jesus wasn't here to create a Robin Hood system of government or to urge His followers to do it either. He didn't ONCE suggest God approved of the forcible confiscation of wealth from those who earned it to those who didn't -but He did urge people to GIVE to those in need. God values what is given by CHOICE -not what is TAKEN from them by force and NEVER said theft was ok as long as it was done by a MAN-MADE government institution! And He NEVER said turning able-bodied human beings into lifelong parasites by addicting them to a life of handouts was a "Christian" duty either.

You think the answer is tax hikes on the rich you want to pretend still aren't paying their "fair share" -what cheese will you want with your whine when you lose your job as a result? A tax hike during a bad economy will drive UP unemployment.
