Go Cruz!!!!! The other four at the site.

snip:
Sen. Ted Cruz is firing back at The New York Times for calling his support of the Second Amendment “strange” by reminding the paper that he wasn’t the only “ridiculous” one who felt that way about gun rights.

The Texas Republican penned an op-ed for National Review on Sunday, featuring quotes from five gun-loving American patriots, driving home the message that if guns were OK with them, then guns must not be all bad.

Cruz wrote:

“The writer, the lead editor for the Times’ editorial page, continued, ‘I just don’t get the argument on constitutional or historical grounds’.”

“Perhaps this will help. Let’s survey some other ‘silly’ people who have embraced this heretical understanding of our liberties.”

So here we go. Courtesy of Sen. Cruz, five Americans who said they were okay with guns.

“And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms…”

Cruz cites Madison saying this:

“The only refuge left for those who prophesy the downfall of the State governments is the visionary supposition that the federal government may previously accumulate a military force for the projects of ambition.

The reasonings contained in these papers must have been employed to little purpose indeed, if it could be necessary now to disprove the reality of this danger. That the people and the States should, for a sufficient period of time, elect an uninterrupted succession of men ready to betray both; that the traitors should, throughout this period, uniformly and systematically pursue some fixed plan for the extension of the military establishment; that the governments and the people of the States should silently and patiently behold the gathering storm, and continue to supply the materials,

until it should be prepared to burst on their own heads, must appear to every one more like the incoherent dreams of a delirious jealousy, or the misjudged exaggerations of a counterfeit zeal, than like the sober apprehensions of genuine patriotism."

Do you not realize that is an argument AGAINST having a massive federal military?

Aren't you rightwingers the ones above all who want a bigger and bigger and bigger federal military?

Why didn't Cruz use a more modern example?

Such as these proud Americans?

"A Las Vegas couple who shot to death two police officers, a civilian and themselves delivered an ominous message before they left home with a shopping cart of weapons to carry out the anti-government ambush, a neighbor said...."

"Fielder said she had heard Jerad Miller make anti-government statements in the past — including a desire to overthrow the government and President Obama and kill police officers."

"Less than six hours later, the couple barged into CiCi's Pizza a few miles away, yelled “This is the start of a revolution!” and started firing, witnesses told police.

The officers, Alyn Beck, 42, and Igor Soldo, 32, were inside having lunch, and both were mortally wounded, Sheriff Doug Gillespie said.

Authorities said the suspects stripped the dead officers of their weapons and ammunition.

They covered one with a swastika and the Revolutionary War-era Gadsden flag, which depicts a coiled snake and the words “Don’t Tread On Me.” On the other officer was a note that said, "The revolution is beginning."

The shooters then headed to a Walmart, where Jerad Miller yelled, "Everyone get out!"

“They just said, ‘The revolution’s begun,’ they said that they shot some officers, and basically get out of the store if you don’t want to get hurt,” said Tyrone Ellis, who works at the store.

A shopper, Joseph Robert Wilcox, 31, of Las Vegas had a concealed weapon and decided to confront Jerad Miller, police said. As he walked toward the suspect, Amanda Miller came up behind him and shot him several times in the ribs, police said."

That's what your revolution looks like. Be careful what you think you want.

Progressives and unarmed citizens are a time tested recipe for mass murder. If we don't learn after Hitler, Stalin, Mao, pol pot and Fidel we never will

Modern Progressives are no different from their ideological forefathers Stalin and Mao; they want the same things because they share a hatred and revulsion for humanity that always leads to genocide and mass graves

Nope. We want a military that is big enough to defend ourselves and our interests.

You can see that in the way that military spending under Republican Presidents dropped and dropped after the SU started collapsing, last few Reagan years, and all though the GHWBush years.

Peacetime? 3% of GDP is a good number, IMO.

Less than that, and you're asking for trouble.

We spend more than almost all other nations combined, and you say that's not enough to keep us safe.

Why are all those other nations safe?

If the 2nd amendment is really about citizens defending themselves from the government, then logically individuals should be able to own armor, artillery, military aircraft, and all the munitions that go with them.

1. Because we keep them safe.

2. Because they know that unless they provoke the crap out of US, we will not invade them.

47 cents out of every global defense dollar is spent by the US

A nation protected by two oceans and friendly neighbors to the north and south

47 cents out of every global defense dollar is spent by the US

A nation protected by two oceans and friendly neighbors to the north and south

And we're 23% of the World's GDP.

And we pay our soldiers in actual money instead of rice rations.

And we (used to) try to keep the World at peace.

Until the Lying Cocksucker took control and infested the world with his childish, churlish, juvenile, idiotic and stupid academic theories on Foreign Policy, the world was doing fairly well.

We haven't had a major War between two major Countries since the 3rd worst president in History -- FDR.

Keep on keepin' on dimocrap scum.

When the Draft Board comes and drags your sons and grandsons away to go die fighting a War that SHOULD have been prevented, maybe then you'll understand....

Nah. You're dimocraps.

Too stupid.

Why does Tes Cruz hate America?

Oh....never mind

Because he is Canadian

Why yes that Reagan was some peace keeper....if you think bombs are peace???

Tom Jefferson was also anti-corporate also, will you hail him on this opinion??

If I lived in the times of 'Corporations' like the Hudson Bay Company and the East India Company, I'd be anti-corporate, too.

Too try to compare Corporations from 250 years ago to today's Corporations is idiotic.....

Oh... Wait.

Nevermind.
