My great grandfather came over from Sicily with pennies I’m his pocket and worked as a poor fisherman to provide a life for his family, he taught the trade to his son who grew the business and bought a boat, my grandfather passed it on to my uncle who spent most of his life running the boat then sold it to start a pizza chain which he is now passing down to his boys. That’s the American Dream. That wouldn’t have happened under the idiotic standards that you are spewing.
No, he is right...you have to have a process.....no one is saying to ban all Haitians....but the percentage of people that will be useful is lower there.....so you should get fewer people from there. Those developing countries, have been developing for 100 years.....there are so many issues that keep them so bad off......mostly the government...but it seems people like easy (being told what to do) more than they like freedom.......it's sad...but I don't know how to fix that.

Your words Papa Doc. we already have immigration laws, we just need to enforce them. They need to speak English, and they need to know some of our history or they don't get in. No speaka da English, no stay. PERIOD.
I think that is a gross oversimplificationWhen exactly did we go from smart to stupid?Yeah, thats fine and dandy for part of our immigration system, however, there's still that ol American spirit. That beacon of light that welcomes the poor, hungry, oppressed and disparaged no matter who they are and gives them a chance to achieve their dreams. Lady Liberty says it better than I...Ok, we have limited resources and time, we have to have broad categories...so if you're from Haiti, you better standout....it's like college adminsions....you want to get to Harvard, just graduating high school isn't going to cut it......Haiti is a shithole high school.....you better be a great athlete, saved people in a disaster, have papers that are beyond exceptional or something to stand you out....because on average....they will look at the reputation of your high school
so in this instance the US is Harvard...we get who we want......we can get people from Haiti, but importing thousands of people in the hope a few make it, is not worth our time.....if we can import people from Greece and get better candidates on average, we pick the Greeks.....but if there are truly exception people in Haiti, we grab them...

When we changed the immigration system in the 60s to open the door for more shithole countries...but the biggest thing was the change from merit to a lottery based system, which was done because dems wanted more minorities that would vote for them....it had nothing to do with helping people...

Well that pretty much how it works. People get visas and need to work and it takes a decade to get citizenship, so they have to prove themselves. I don’t think that opportunity to prove themselves should only be presented to the elite.
