SD is cash strapped that they are committed to pension reform and have the public's support.

They want to put all new workers into the private sector 401(k), have the current one contribute more and have their payments based on SALARY! If liberal CA can do it, expect the rest of the country to follow! Cross your fingers!

FUCK THE UNION THUGS!!!

I just wonder if liberal hypocrites are going to say anything, since this is Democrats doing this not Republicans!

Cash-strapped California City Gears Up For Battle With Unions Over Pension Reform | Fox News
Taxpayers have had it,” former Mayor Roger Hedgecock said. “A huge portion of the city budget is going to fund these pensions far beyond anything in private sector.”

The initiative would force new city workers into private-sector style 401(k)s. Current employees would pay more, and their retirement payments would be based solely on base salary – not accrued sick leave and vacation time, often used to inflate pension pay.

San Diego is going to be the next Wisconsin. I think you are going to see a national confrontation between these very powerful public employee unions, who have a hammer lock on the public sector against taxpayers who have to pay the bill.”

San Jose and San Diego say pension reform is the only way to avoid tax increases or cuts in personnel. The San Diego Taxpayers Association says their cites spends 44 cents of every payroll dollar not on current city worker salaries, but on retirees and pensions. San Jose officials peg their exposure at 55 cents a dollar.

If anyone living in the fallen empire expects any sort of pension in the future, you're tripping.
You better get it right ! .......or suffer the horrible consequences.

You are Irish or Cuba correct? Either way if your Irish probably 45-50 states beats Ireland's GDP. If your Cuban even out territories beats your GDP! We are not a fallen empire by any means.

There are two reasons for working in local government: job security and benefits. Take both away as conservatives want to do and the consequences will be that government will be hard pressed to hire good people

I was responsible for the recruitment of law enforcement deputies for several years. To be hired a new employee needed to pass a civil service test; a medical examination, a physical abilities test, two psychological examinations - one written, one interview - a thorough background investigation including criminal record search, credit reports and telephone interviews with three persons not related to the job seeker.

If they perspective employee gets passed these successfully s/he is interviewed by three supervisors from other agencies. If they pass this interview they are placed on a list, ranked by how well the panel felt they did.

Then, when jobs open the agency asks HR for the list, and can request (by our HR rules) the top three, top five, top ten or the entire list to interview. This time three managers interview and rank the candidates.

The the number needed are hired and must serve one year probation. During this time they can be terminated without cause. The probationary employee receives a written evaluation, generally once per month, written by their immediate supervisor with input from other deputies and their field training officer.

Two of every hundred who apply make it as permanent peace officer employees. The other 98 wash out somewhere during the process.

Cut salary and benefits and your local police agency will likely represent the current crop of nominees for the Republican nomination - not the best and the brightest.

Cut salary and benefits and your local police agency

Tell you what, since the people want and are willing to pay for police, why don't we not cut their salary and benefits and instead ELIMINATE the scores of unnecessary and burdensome local regulators, bureaucrats, and government employees that we all know are either completely useless or whose responsibilities would be better provided by a free market or charitable organizations?

Either way, your argument is simply unsustainable. Our national debt, California's debt and the debt held by the people of San Diego prove that beyond a shadow of a doubt. Suck it up and cut government services or go broke.

Funny thing is I bet there is little uproar in the national media on this. The liberals won't be bused in to protest, like they did in WI. Michael Moore will keep his fat ass somewhere else. No Sharpton screaming racist. No large protests.

The reason is because WI is was Republican lead and SD is Democratic lead. The most hypocritical part is that SD is THANKFULLY AND JUSTIFIABLY taking it a step further. They are making new employees enroll in individual plans (401k), raise pension contributions to the private secotr equivalent and limit pension payments SOLELY to salary. That is well beyond what the Great and Courageous Gov Walker did!

Liberals are hypocrites!

I think the people of Indiana should be made to bail out California. It's only fair.

Heard on the radio driving into work, that IN has a large surplus and that they are giving that surplus back to the tax payors of IN. It is SSSSOOO close to IL, why can't the wife let us move and come back to see friends and family on the weekend!
