And yet, this convicted felon ignored those laws and amassed a huge inventory of illegal guns, including the made up "assault" rifles, and he also had standard capacity magazines which are against the law to possess.

Regardless of how our views on gun control differ, I would be a crisp, American dollar that we agree on this: we really need to do a better job enforcing the laws we have. The hyper-violent repeat felon that bought firearms at will and then shot up that church in Texas was a face-slappingly blatant illustration of how many holes there are for someone like him to slither through.

That said, I'm not convinced that this is a "gun control fail," as your linked article states. An LA Times article (which I'll link at the bottom) says that "The investigation led detectives to a woman linked to the firearms purchases. While she was not home, detectives recovered 30 guns from her home, officials said." That sounds like his girlfriend has been making straw purchases for him, probably for some time, so in this case it doesn't appear as if he slipped through the cracks as the guy in Texas did and made the purchases himself. As for her, I'm not aware of any gun control efforts or laws, in California or elsewhere, that push or investigate for potential straw purchases before they take place; they typically catch straw purchasers after the fact, which these police just did.

I am glad to see what went right this time - someone in the community saw something and said something, and the police did the right thing in the right way. I think we'll also both agree that taking a felon with a house full of firearms out of the equation is a good thing.

And you are just dumb. The AR-15 civilian rifle is not a military grade rifle...it has never been used by the military, and has never been used in war. It is no different from any other semi automatic rifle.....
