Controversy Over Obamas School Speech Is About Race

Personally I'd rather not have ANY President giving speeches to school children. This has nothing to do with race or political affiliation but has to do with the fact that I would prefer for their asses to be in D.C. actually reading the bills Congress sends them, looking over treaties put before them, meeting with foreign dignitaries etc. In short I want them involved in acts of governance not out giving speeches for good press as if they were still on the campaign trail. There is plenty of time for speech giving (and money to be made doing it as well) after they are out of office and no longer working on our time and money.

Obama's speech on education: The controversy is mostly about race.

Key point that is oh some damn true, especially for idiots like DiveCoon, RGS, etc:

One can’t help but wonder, if it’s socialism these parents are worried about then why are they taking marching orders from General Rush Limbaugh and the other conservative commanders of the far right who have laced much of their criticisms of the president in race-based language and called the president himself a racist? These demigods have exploited the racial fears of irrational, uniformed people and made them captive to group think that posits that white people are losing more and more control over their lives every day because the black man in office is hell-bent on denying them the white privilege that, until his election, was their birthright.

No, it isn't. It's about his government-grab policies. If you see it as racial, then it will be racial. But you are wrong.

The past is the past, there is no changing it, the present is here and now. You should listen to Obama . . . didn't he say to look forward, not back? You would do well to get rid of that chip on your shoulders, once and for all.

Is it overtly racist? I don't know. I only know who the people are who are insane in their responses to him... and what is being said.

There is no power grab that comes close to what the incompetent in the white house for the previous 8 years did... up to and including pretending that the VP wasn't part of the executive branch and violating TWO court orders to release the veep's visitor logs.

I never objected to the speech but I do object to the speech giver. I wouldn't let my kids listen to it or participate in any government provided actives associated with it. If I had, would my kids have come home preaching 'Obama, Obama he's our man. If he can't do it, no one can'? Hell no. I didn't allow my kids to participate because I adamantly disagree with Obama's policies and with the direction he is taking this country. It saddens me that this is the only time I've ever felt this way. Geesh, as much as I didn't care for the Clintons I never would have kept my kids from listening to Bill give a back to school speech. It's a sad day for this country when so many parents disagree so strongly with the president on principle that they won't even let their kids listen to him speak.

I have no doubt about his massive power grab -- how you don't or can't see it Jillian, I just don't know.

Aside from our differing opinions on the power grab, do you think my not letting my kids take part in the speech/activities is in any way based on the fact that Obama is black?

The OP was claiming that opposition was due to racism, did you disagree with that? You are trying to divert the subject again.

I didn't respond to the OP. I CHOSE to respond to Zoom's false assertion. Last I heard, responding to a post on a thread did not have to respond specifically to the OP.

Fine, I'll lay off.

lol.. i don't mind discussing the issue, but I certainly don't feel compelled to respond to everything that may be written on a thread. ;)
