The European Commission has demanded Britain justifies the widespread and routine fingerprinting of children in schools because of "significant concerns" that the policy breaks EU privacy laws.

JBeukema (we finally meet, and I've heard so much about you),

Whilst I admire your attempt at provoking discourse, I'm afraid I'm going to have to douse the flames you wish to fan.

The fingerprinting of school-children in the UK isn't a new thing. It's been going-on for God knows how many years. People are only starting to raise their eyebrows because of the new technology being deployed to record fingerprints, and how that technology fits into a much larger network of data sharing.

If you read the article, and others that cover the same story, you'll see that only 30% of UK schools are in possession of the new biometric fingerprint scanners. And a parent is legally entitled to refuse to allow their child submitting their fingerprints, until they're legally allowed to decide for themselves, under Article 8 of the Human Rights Act.

Nice try, though. But keep-up the good work.
