No. Constitutionally supported Federal Law on any specific topic overrides state law.

The only legal argument they would have is that somehow the Federal Government can not print paper money. Failing that they have no authority to void Federal money.

Yes because only the states have the right to issue money. The federal government has the right to regulate it. What we have now is unconstitutional currency because it is federal reserve notes not United States treasury notes which makes it not even a government currency in the first place.

The other reason that it is unconstitutional is that it invokes a power the federal government doesn't have and that it forces you to accept the currency even if you don't want it.
