With recent victories in Spain and the EU elections, conservatives are making up significant ground throughout Europe.

The Conservative Party won its first national election Spain for the first time since 2000, with voters showing their collective disgust at their nation's high unemployment rate - the highest in the EU. (Coincidentally, Spain also spearheaded the Go-Green jobs economy in Europe as well, with disastrous economic results)

Conservatives also picked up seats in the EU via Germany, Brittain, and Portugal.

It would appear a majority of Europe is starting to lean center-right, with various Socialist Party members receiving decisive defeats throughout the EU.

This is a good sign, but you need to keep one thing in mind. Europe's conservatives are more like America's moderates. I'm not sure there are any true conservatives in Europe. None the less, this is still a good sign, especially if the Dems want us to be more like Europe.

Man, this is great. American cons are so distressed with the Party of Sarah Palin, and the complete discrediting of their lassaize faire, law of the jungle version of capitalism, that they're looking for any silver lining they can.

Dude, a european "conservative" is not the metaphorical equaivalent of your heros Newt Gingrich, Rush Limbaugh, and Sarah Palin. Joe Lieberman would be considered a "conservative" in most european countries. My experience and understaniding of european conservatives is that they are nationalists. But they sure as hell aren't proclaiming the same shit american Cons are. I would love to see one single european conservative win a national election by promising to ban universal healthcare, dismantle all of europes social safety net, and proclaim that government "is the problem" and should get out of the way of the magical free markets.

Socialism necessitates the collective ownership of the means of production. Social democracy is in fact the foe of socialism, since it brings about macroeconomic stabilization, produces positive externalities, and maintains the physical efficiency of the working class, thus sustaining capitalism.

If the European conservatives were in the GOP, the Small Tent Republicans would be trying to drive them out of the party for being too moderate.

Again, this could be promising!

The Gordon Brown example is particularly interesting as Labour placed an embarrassing 3rd in the elections, while the UK Independence Party kicked some butt - which is a party that is actually right of the traditional conservative party on issues such as EU membership, immigration, and trade.

How about the silly old notion of actual capitalism sustaining capitalism, you know like people voluntary entering into transactions without coercion because they believe that doing so is in their own best interests? Why must you "social <fill in the blank for whatever nonsense distracting adverb is the flavor of the decade here>" always resort to the use of force as a means to promote your statist ideas.
