Congressmen Move to Overturn 'Merry Christmas' Ban...

People would take you wingnuts more seriously if you weren't so select about what personal freedoms are banned.

First of all, as was ALREADY pointed out there is NOTHING about "preventing a US citizen from saying Merry Christmas" so spare us the phony fucking outrage please. So you're getting your panties in a wad about nothing.

Second, if you REALLY want to complain about GUBMINT overreach and involving itself in personal decisions and the private lives of it's citizens then JOIN ME and get outraged about these....

I don't want the gubmint involving itself in personal decisions such as abortion.

I don't want the gubmint involving itself in personal conversations between patients and doctors. If a patient doesn't want their doctor to ask about guns in the home they can simply not answer or change doctors.

I don't want the gubmint involving itself in personal decisions such as euthanaisia.

I don't want the gubmint involving itself in personal decisions such as recreational drug use.

I don't want the gubmint involving itself in personal decisions such as life and death decision like it did with Terri Schiavo's family.

I don't want the gubmint involving itself in personal decisions such as whether a woman (or man) chooses to sell their time and bodies for sexual services.

I don't want the gubmint involving itself in spying on me and support repeal of the so-called Patriot Act.

Because anyone who cannot support the statements above cannot possibly be for "limited government".

If we can't spend FEDERAl dollars on Christmas then de fund the federal employees who take Christmas off. It's just that simple.

Then we would have to undeclare it as a federal holiday. It's that simple. Is that what you want?

And since you failed to address my previous post can I assume you agree with my statements?

I sure do. If the congress can't put Merry Christmas on a Christmas card there is no reason whatsoever to fund a paid day off at Christmas for federal workers. NOne what so ever.

Why don't the Socialist/Progressive Democrats just go ahead and start rounding up Christians and place them in Concentration Camps? That would solve all their problems with those bad ole Christians no? Why don't they just be more up front about how much they hate those dreaded Christians? All these under-handed and devious attacks on Christians really are pretty cowardly. And they're pretty tiresome too.

Remember these are the same mental retards that will claim they're soooo liberal and all for womans lib and freedom of all but will turn around and defend Sharia with every ounce of moisture in their body...

Not to mention Kwanza which was founded by a delusional rapist that held a couple woman hostage and put cigarettes out on their faces, then went to prison...

Democrats embrace all things bad - its almost like they're evil... Then they tell us how "liberal" they are...

"Liberalism (progressivism)" is a mental disorder...

Seriously, why is it our Government's first response to ban everything as solutions? I mean how many more Laws do we really need? It seems like banning things is just a reflexive response for them now. But why do so many Americans support that? It's bizarre.

What is it with this banning stuff coming from Government? Seems like they're always in such a rush to ban everything. Banning 'Merry Christmas' in greetings? Come on Big Government. You can do better than that. Good to see some in Government trying to reverse this trend.

Rep. Joe Walsh, an Illinois Republican, and Rep. Mike Ross, an Arkansas Democrat, are trying to overturn a rule that forbids the use of “Merry Christmas” and “Happy Hanukkah” in taxpayer-funded congressional correspondence.

Congressional rules state that mail containing holiday greetings cannot be “franked” — Hill lingo for receiving taxpayer reimbursement for postage — according to a memo from the “Franking Commission Staff” obtained by The Washington Examiner.

Members may “make reference to the season as a whole using language along the lines of ‘Have a safe and happy holiday season” but only if it is “incidental to the piece rather than the primary purpose of the communication,” the memo said.

In response to the memo, Walsh and Ross circulated a letter Monday encouraging both Republican and Democratic members to demand the rule be rescinded.

“We are not celebrating winter this December,” the letter reads in part. “We are celebrating significant moments in two religions that have fundamentally shaped our nation — and as Members of Congress who represent thousands of constituents celebrating these holidays, we ask you to reconsider these outdated and restrictive rules.”

As usual democrats are authoritarian assholes..

Who the fuck do they think they are attempting to dictate anothers words????

If a congresscritter really wants to say "Merry Christmas" who the fuck cares?? this is supposed to be a free country allegedly... Besides, wouldn't preventing a US citizen from saying Merry Christmas be a blatant First Amendment violation???

I'm sure if some black congressmen said "happy Kwanza" that would be perfectly fine tho...

Progressives are such bigoted tyrants....

No one claimed you are banned from saying 'Merry Christmas.' Read the article. It addresses a particular issue.

Taxpayer dollars can't be used by politicians for pointless seasonal gladhanding?

Good thing

Just because it has the word "Christmas" in it does not change the principle of the matter. Anyone who is for smaller government that is less wasteful would be happy with such a thing.

Guess we can tell the true conservatives from the faux ones in this thread.

You're just a whiner. The only attack on Xmas is in your fevered brain. Throwing out those "why don'ts" just proves how bankrupt your ideology is.

Why can't congress put Merry Christmas on their Christmas cards?

Then why do we have to pay for federal workers to take Christmas day off?

Because that was a contractual benefit that was negotiated between the employer (the fed) and their employees.

And as far as I know Christmas cards aren't very productive workers. I don't mind taxpayer dollars used to actually pay people who do a job. And with that comes normal benefits that many similar non-fed jobs carry as well. Like paid holidays.

Last time I checked politicians were US citizens, hence the Bill of Rights applies to them as well..

They have the same civil liberties as any one of us...

I don't know who the fuck the government thinks they are telling individuals they cant write "Merry Christmas."

Quite frankly that defies the First Amendment not once but twice. Not only does it violate freedom of speech - it violates freedom of religion to boot..

Nope.. not good enough. If the congress can't put Merry Christmas on a christmas card because it is federally funded then we by no means should pay a single solitary federal worker to take Christmas off. Take if off the federally recognized holiday list and make the athiest happy. Any federal worker taking Christmas day off should do so without the use of a single taxpayer dime.

That's a GREAT point.

I guess the conservatives on this board are just peachy with politicians spending taxpayer money on cards (which are nothing more that re-election propoganda) as long as those cards say Christmas.

Spoken like someone who didn't read the article.

Paulitician is lying to you when he says this is a ban. It isn't. Every member of Congress is perfectly free to send out any card at the holidays and the cards can say anything on them. The only thing is, if the cards send a specific wish for a specific holiday, they won't be reimbursed for postage with tax payer money.

In other words, this cuts spending and saves tax payer money and Paulitician is against it. Go figure.

In what universe do you live???

Give me one reason why they cant???

What, your mythical "wall of separation" which is NOT EVEN IN THE BILL OF RIGHTS??

Who the fuck do you think you are telling another what they can and cannot think or write???

Meanwhile your fucking Jesus Obama is using 4 million dollars of your taxpayer money to go and jerkoff in Hawaii and you're bitching about pens and paper...

What a class act you are...

Because it's a FEDERAL holiday. So in order to not pay federal workers for the day you're wanting the banks open and schools in session?
