There is a school well within 1000 yards of the Safeway where Loughner attacked (possibly 2?).

The Federal Law prohibiting him to carry it there didn't stop him, but somehow, a new one will?

It is ironic this Congressman is introducing a strict gun control law designed to protect HIS ass, not yours or mine. Anyone with a firearm that can't measure 1000 feet by eyesight alone is toast.

If we are going to craft gun control legislation, lets improve the screening process so we are able to identify and deny mentally ill killers like Jared Lee Loughner, who used a legal weapon. The only way they could have caught him under the current procedure is if Jared Lee Loughner answered YES to being mentally ill...

If his parents would have sought help for his mental problems like they should have, there would have been some record of this that should have been made available to the proper authorities when a gun was being purchased. Or when the kid tried to enlist in the military, maybe the first test should be a psychiatric screening, cause you gotta be a little nuts to try to enlist anyway.
They use this tragedy as an opportunity to grab guns. It isn't a psychotic gun that kills people it's the psycho who does.

In the United States, it is illegal to bring a gun within 1,000 feet of a school. Passing a similar law for government officials would give federal, state, and local law enforcement a better chance to intercept would-be shooters before they pull the trigger

What good is this supposed to do, especially against people who do not care if they get caught/killed?
