Congress Rating Plunge

Congress has not accomplished anything in the last 10 years. It lacks leadership in both parties. Its primary focus is on partisanship rather than getting the job done. There used to be leaders in Congress who could go into a back room and pound out a deal that worked for both parties. Now it is all about posturing for the cameras and biting off your nose to spite your face.
It's often said that watching legislation go through congress is like watching sausage being made. You my like the outcome, but the process is ugly.

You're right. The focus has been on the ugly with precious few real results.

Is this the fault of 'youtube' clips designed to enrage? Is this the result of a bitterly divided nation? Is this the result of the lack of ideas among the party leadership? Or is this a cumulative effect of all these factors and more?

The Right is obsessed with one goal: defeating Obama by any means necessary. This in spite of the fact he was elected by a majority in both the popular vote and the electoral college! And this election was held not more than ten months ago! If there was this much fervor in November, those who shout the loudest would have been able to marshal their votes and defeat Obama in November! Why didn't they do that then?

Why, they'll claim the wildest excuses! They'll claim that the Democrats picked McCain! Even after those same uber-organized Democrats, capable of nominating McCain couldn't even settle on their own candidate until sometime in May, after McCain's Republican nomination was a fete d'accompli! They'll claim the evil press derailed Palin! Even though Palin has been doing yeoman's work to derail herself.

Amazing!

Obama's falling popularity and the ability of Congress to get anything done are two separate things.

Many people who voted for Obama are taking a second look. In marketing, they call this buyer's remorse. He presented himself as one thing and is obviously something else. That we elect people with no track record and turn a blind eye to the most obvious indicators of their actual self is interesting. Still this has nothing to do with the partisanship that is destroying our country.

You say that the right is obsessed with defeating Obama. Do you recall the left and its obsession with defeating Bush?

It's the same stink from a different skunk.

I say if you're an incumbent, no matter what political party, you need to be voted out of office. Time for some fresh blood, new names and new ideas. Maybe we could get a crop of Congressmen who would like to listen to the citizens of the country. We could start cleaning out the deadbeats with Pelosi.

See, but here's the problem.

The current crop of politicians ran on a platform that had a public health care option as one of it's top priorities.

And, in general, they won by wide margins, especialy the president, who won by a 7.2% margin and had been talking about public health care, prominently, throughout his campaign.

So, the are in fact "listening to the citizens of this country". The citizens of this country voted for exactly what they're trying to push through.

However, after a long media campaign of spreading false information, the people of this country are, at the moment, sour on the idea.

The problem is this:

They presented the situation as the worst health care in the world and an improvement which would be free of cost and available to all.

Turns out that it's not free of cost. Those who get it must pay for it. Those who don't get it must also pay for it. It will add a trillion dollars to the fastest growing debt of any type in the history of the universe. In my case, it will double my cost for health care if choose to not take it and keep what I've got.

Every taxpayer's share of this boondogle is $3333.00.

Now they are talking about reducing the benefits available through Medicare and Medicaid to help pay for this. They talk about finding savings in a government program to offset the costs. Yeah, right. It's happened soooo many times in the past.

We are being lied to. Again. People don't like to be lied to. That's what is causing the uproar.

Obama consistently posts higher than the GOP, consistently, despite the other issues.

You rightits are making a serious mistake if you are underestimating him. BHO will give you a wedgie, pull your sweater of your collective head, and give you a thumping, boys and girls.

Underestimate at your own risk.

Got some links? Indeed everything I've seen has been a tendency to overstate his ability, from both left and right. On the other hand, GW was always underestimated from both sides, yet he was a two termer, for better or worse.

Obama is over exposed and under powered on issues. You do realize he's been in office less than 9 months is now over 100 speeches before tomorrow, on health care? Umm, he keeps falling with each speech.
