Congress Rating Plunge

A survey of 1,016 adults taken July 10-13 found that 14% approve of the job Congress is doing. That's half President Bush's record low 28% job approval number, and the lowest congressional rating since Gallup first began asking the question in 1974.

Good Job!
Between the partisanship, the town brawls and the lack of a coherent message from either party it's no wonder!

Congress has not accomplished anything in the last 10 years. It lacks leadership in both parties. Its primary focus is on partisanship rather than getting the job done. There used to be leaders in Congress who could go into a back room and pound out a deal that worked for both parties. Now it is all about posturing for the cameras and biting off your nose to spite your face.

It's often said that watching legislation go through congress is like watching sausage being made. You my like the outcome, but the process is ugly.

You're right. The focus has been on the ugly with precious few real results.

Is this the fault of 'youtube' clips designed to enrage? Is this the result of a bitterly divided nation? Is this the result of the lack of ideas among the party leadership? Or is this a cumulative effect of all these factors and more?

The Right is obsessed with one goal: defeating Obama by any means necessary. This in spite of the fact he was elected by a majority in both the popular vote and the electoral college! And this election was held not more than ten months ago! If there was this much fervor in November, those who shout the loudest would have been able to marshal their votes and defeat Obama in November! Why didn't they do that then?

Why, they'll claim the wildest excuses! They'll claim that the Democrats picked McCain! Even after those same uber-organized Democrats, capable of nominating McCain couldn't even settle on their own candidate until sometime in May, after McCain's Republican nomination was a fete d'accompli! They'll claim the evil press derailed Palin! Even though Palin has been doing yeoman's work to derail herself.

Amazing!

Good Job!

That is because the republicans suck with no Ideas and the ideas the dems are trying to push are not what the majority of americans want.

Congress has lost the ability to compromise. Compromise is looked at as weakness and defeat. It is more important to win than to do what is right for the country.
Once again, it reflects weak leadership and greater interest in looking good for the partisan talk shows than in doing the job you were elected to do.
It is no longer a Democrat vs republican thing. Each proclaims "my way or the highway" once they get in power.

Good Job!

Why are you using a poll from 7/16/2008 right now? You DO realize it is 2009, right?

Good catch, I still doubt if their ratings have improved

I agree with you. I just wanted to point out that it appears the OP is either stupid, or was trying to manipulate others based on data he knew was inaccurate or at the very least, not current.

Yes this is by far the worst U.S. Congress in History. It's gotten so bad that most Americans just wish they would stay away on permanent Vacation at this point. If they're away they cant do any more damage. The more we see of them the worse things get. Vote all Socialists out!

They can start by voting Ron Paul out.
He has not accomplished anything in the time he has been in Congress. No bills, no initiative....nothing

Get rid of the stiff

Most people just wish they would stay on Vacation forever. I think that really does say it all about this worst U.S. Congress in History.

As I always say to this type of poll:

The only approval rating that matters to a member of congress, is the approval rating for themselves from their district.

What the hell does a Senator from Idaho care about whether New Yorkers approve of the job they're doing? That Senator DOESN'T REPRESENT THEM.

If you post ratings that are at this level for individual races, then you might have a point. But I'll bet real money that you won't find more than one or two congressional districts with this kind of approval rating for their representative.

14%

I knew it was bad - but that is BAD.

Well done Ried and Pelosi!

Again, what does Pelosi care about national ratings? Her constituency is almost sure to vote her in again for another term.

As long as the people of her district approve of the job she's doing, you and Glenn Beck can screw off as far as she's concerned.

Thanks for that.

Pelosi is losing her leadership position by the way...
