Confirmed: Obama administration sunk $535 million in Porkulus funds in green-energy t

EDIT: TRAJAN, WE WERE POSTING THE SAME IDEA AT THE SAME TIME! LOL!

This reminds me of all the liberals in Massachusetts who were all screaming about the need for expensive windmills, until it turned out that those windmills were going to ruin their own ocean views, and then they were screaming to halt their construction!

Liberalism is a metal disorder.

Metal disorder? Mercury poisoning? That can't be a bad thing. Republicans want to disband the EPA. Yum, mercury good. Yum.

No - We just want to ban the dictator from using the EPA as a tool to force failed & un-democratic policy on everyone. I suggest you read up on DDT, JFK & EPA. Kennedy used the EPA as a political tool to ban DDT (against the advice of the EPA's own scientist, the UN & WHO). He used the EPA & foreign aid to force his political policy on the planet killing over 60 million people. JFK is the most notorious killer president ever.

Yet, it was Republicans who have denied subpoena power to the president to investigate BP over and over again. Maybe it was "part" of the apology?

Just curious, how does it make you feel when you get a little "truth" dropped on your tiny head?

rd, Of course he did, because he knew that it would be blocked. Tell me, you don't actually believe that both parties are not in bed with big oil do you? Let me educate you a little. Pretty funny considering it was right before the Gulf spill tragedy.

I've noticed something about the liberal debating strategy here: hit on a topic that makes obama looks bad, and

1. attack and/or dismissively mock the poster
2. change the subject
3. Run out the clock

Alinski.

If i may, the conservatives here need to debate more efficiently, not get draw into personality contests and keep the topics difficult to the libs front and center. i just wasted a lot of time with someone who follows me around and draws me into endless bullshit sessions. this is all liberals have left because the efficiently debated facts destroy them. this is what we need to do. Don't get drawn in. repetition of the facts is all that matters. It's not good conversation, but it's good patriotism. IMO.

Obama could have sex with all of the Dallas cheerleaders on National T.V. and the Obamabots would find a way to defend, justify, it.

I mean look how they still stick up for the Hounddog Billy Clinton.

That's what I call BLIND LOVE AND DEVOTION.:lol:

That is so true it really isn't funny. I say "Obama won't release his records and because of new laws won;t be able to get on the ballot in 2012 if continues to hide them" and in a couple of instances liberals have said, in essence, "It doesn't matter, Arizona is the only one so far and he doesn't need that one anyway.' Completely dismissing the apparent admission by themselves that Obama is in fact hiding his records, looks suspicious and whatever it is he's hiding is so damaging that he won't even give it up to get on a ballot. That's just screwed up. Screwed up by any measure.

About 2 weeks worth of war costs on green energy stuff?
Develop/help alternative energy and conservation vs killing people?
No choice there for me.

Ah come on righties you can do better than the inane replies above. Green energy is the future. And Infidel is my number one fan, he is always reading and repping me, but still cannot think beyond a few childish emoticons.

What's wrong with green energy?

Better we should put our money into fighting wars to maintain our addiction to oil?

That's just plain stupid.

You mean green energy scam? Because that is exactly what it is. There is little green energy that is sustainable with a positive EROI. Politics are driving the green energy lie.

The wind & sun are not producing power when your air-conditioner needs to cool your home, you are ready to flip the light switch, take a shower, start the laundry or dish-washer.

What is your employer supposed to do? Pay employees to stand around waiting for the sun & wind to power the assembly line so you can actually work to make something he can sell?

Not that there was much doubt about the question of the White House backing of Solyndra in California. The report from November, when I first wrote about the dissipation of more than a half-billion dollars, covered the facts well. In fact, let’s watch the original report from the local ABC affiliate one more time:(video at site.)

Congress has now confirmed the waste in a letter from the House Energy and Commerce Committee to Energy Secretary Steven Chu:
Solyndra, Inc. was supposed to have showcased the effectiveness of the Obama administration’s stimulus and green jobs initiatives, but instead it has become the center of congressional attention for waste, fraud and abuse of such programs.

According to a Feb. 17 letter signed by Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton, Michigan Republican, and Oversight Subcommittee Chairman Cliff Stearns, Florida Republican, to Energy Secretary Steven Chu, the Fremont, Calif.-based solar panel manufacturer squandered $535 million of stimulus money. …According to Biden’s speech, the $535 million loan guarantee was a smaller part of the $30 billion of stimulus money the administration planned to spend as part of its Green Jobs Initiative.
Obama made similar claims in a May 26, 2010 speech at the plant, but the 1,000 jobs he and Biden touted in their respective speeches failed to materialize.

Instead, Solyndra announced on Nov. 3 it planned to postpone expanding the plant, which cost the taxpayers $390.5 million, or 73 percent of the total loan guarantee, according to the Wall Street Journal.
It also announced that it no longer planned to hire the 1,000 workers that Obama and Biden had touted in their speeches and that it planned to close one of its older factories and planned to lay-off 135 temporary or contract workers and 40 full-time employees.
Gosh, who could have predicted that the Solyndra pork project might fail? Perhaps all of those Wall Street investors that avoided Solyndra for one obvious reason:

Yikes! A government contract gone bad? Imagine that.

So yes, this isn't good, but that's what happens to private sector businesses who can't hold on even with government subsidies. They take risks, they fail.

thx steph for the update.........I pass solyndra every single day I go to work....this all started when oops, after building that second plant, the Chinese had already, while it was on the drawing board and being built, ate our lunch...so those 1000 jobs they forecast won't even happen and, I saw it the other day, they are closing the 'older' plant, which will cost jobs as a net loss.

anyway a primer-

Which, translated, means we SHOULD HAVE BEEN doing alternative energy projects long before the Chinese could take over the entire industry.

Yes, but when the private sector fails, they do it with their own money and don't ruin the economy by sucking the liquid capital out of the system to pay for their failures, the way the Government does. Gigantic difference. That's why socialism fails everywhere it's tried: look at Greece, and the UK isn't far behind. We're next if we don't drop the liberal daydreams of magic money and get back to grounded, real-world conservative principle.

This isn't about winning ideologically. It's in your best interests, too.

And Reagan and Bush Jr wasted billions on wars and star wars. Did you notice that fact, or are you only awake during certain election cycles?

"The Nordic countries maintain their dynamism despite high taxation in several ways. Most important, they spend lavishly on research and development and higher education. All of them, but especially Sweden and Finland, have taken to the sweeping revolution in information and communications technology and leveraged it to gain global competitiveness. Sweden now spends nearly 4 percent of GDP on R&D, the highest ratio in the world today. On average, the Nordic nations spend 3 percent of GDP on R&D, compared with around 2 percent in the English-speaking nations." Jeffrey D. Sachs The Social Welfare State, beyond Ideology: Scientific American

And then there's all the corruption regarding no-bid contracts awarded to Halliburton. They agreed, finally, to pay a fine regarding a KBR corruption charge $380-$400 million), but got off scot free for the overcharges that went on for four years.

http://www.halliburton.com/public/news/pubsdata/press_release/2009/corpnws_021109.html

And then they moved to Dubai.

I could barely find any information other than page after page of right wing bloggers and "news" outlets lambasting the Solyndria issue, so I guess it's the talking point du jour for the right. Interesting how message boards went silent by the right while Halliburton was fucking us over. Another tit-for-tat little game going on by this thread.

And incredibly, Halliburton had its sticky fingers in the BP mess, too. But it's all Obama's fault? God people are stupid.

Halliburton's Legal Fate in Gulf Spill Still Uncertain - NYTimes.com
The report from the National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling found that Halliburton, along with BP and Transocean, were all guilty of "errors and misjudgments" in relation to the April 20 explosion and resulting spill (Greenwire, Jan 11).

A key example of Halliburton's role was highlighted in the report's fourth chapter, which focuses on the use of cement when drilling the well, which BP subcontracted out to the firm.

One of the report's findings is that Halliburton had conducted tests in February 2010, two months before the disaster, that indicated the foam cement slurry used on the well was unstable.

The tests "should have prompted the company to reconsider its slurry design," the report says.
