people were warned this would happen. all the supporters of this should be sending apologizes to all the employees who will be on the unemployment line. will these peopel be counted on the UE number or just ignored as people who should be working but due to technical problems their job is just relocated.

Even though this may actually be "Obamacare" prompted, cutting employees to part time to avoid paying benefits is nothing new - look to Walmart and Grocery Stores for examples.

It's no longer health insurance, it's health care. Insurance is where people pool resources to protect against the possibility of future risk. Now that existing conditions are covered it no longer meets the definition of insurance, it's just care, and will be much more expensive. Employers can't afford it and stay competative, especially in low a margin business like food.

By the way...it should be pointed out that nobody is forcing them to do this. It's the company's decision to find some way to skirt the law to maintain or increase their profit at the expense of their employee's.

These companies are running businesses and those businesses need full time workers or they can't stay in business. If they could run their businesses with reduced work hours, they would have done so long ago.

In business workers aren't a luxury, they're a necessity.

The restaurant industry is one of the most risky whose profit margins are very low.
Darden also has to answer to share holders.
