Commitment to God

Commitment to God
In short but important

So true, Mortimer. We are but dust but God loves each of us with an infinite love. Though we can never understand such love, we must commit ourselves to Him, love Him and trust in His will.

Matthew 7:6

Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.

can what is withheld be holy -

it's the attitude that counts, hogs in particular especially if they are compelled to begin circling around you. that guy truly is emblematic of your 4th century religion. their deception is used a lot.

It would be more ETHICAL if we all (different groups and cultures) had a commitment to the Golden Rule and treat everyone with respect. Unless the other person loses respect by not exercising the Golden Rule.

While at first glance, the Golden Rule sounds like a good thing, but unfortunately, it's really not. "Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you". What if a person thinks that having someone spread word about Jesus is the greatest thing that someone could do to them, and decided to do it to a Buddhist or atheist? Those people wouldn't appreciate being told that their views are invalid according to the Christian.

I think a better way of saying it is "don't do to others, what you don't want done to you". Makes it a lot easier to follow and understand.
Good Allah, we found someone more in sync with the Father than Jesus Christ! Thank you for enlightening us!

I guess you have meant to say that you'll be working on your commitment to God , like Paul and the Apostles worked on committing themselves.
We are all weak. We give in into temptation. That is why it says to forgive them seventy seven times.
The firstborn in the O.T. were suppose to be committed to God. But none of them were able to keep their obligations. But God chosen the tribe of Levi since they has stood by Moses during the Golden calf.
And so they had to live by faith, by living from off the land and others. None of them were not allowed to have a security blanket like a home or property and cattle. But they were not allowed to cut their hair or wear fancy wardrobes. And they stayed away from fancy cuisines and wine.

“I have taken the Levites from among the Israelites in place of the first male offspring of every Israelite woman. The Levites are mine,

Matthew 7:12
“All things, therefore, that you want men to do to you, you also must do to them.+ This, in fact, is what the Law and the Prophets mean.+

This is similar to loving our neighbor as ourselves - the 2nd greatest commandment in the Bible according to Jesus:

Matthew 22:36-40
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”+ 37 He said to him: “‘You must love Jehovah your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind.’+ 38 This is the greatest and first commandment. 39 The second, like it, is this: ‘You must love your neighbor as yourself.’+ 40 On these two commandments the whole Law hangs, and the Prophets.”+

The greatest commandment is a primary reason why we dedicate our lives to serve Jehovah, namely our love for Him. Jesus was quoting from Deuteronomy 6:4,5; Leviticus 19:18.
