University of Colorado law professor Robert Dieter — one of the electors who sat around a desk in the office of Gov. Bill Owens in 2000 to cast votes for Bush — said the system shouldn't be changed.

"The electoral college, for all of its flaws, is a necessary check and balance for ensuring that the president is elected from a dispersed geographical portion of the United States," he said. "The organizational plan of the founding fathers was to make sure we didn't have a system where a president could be elected simply based on popular votes from population centers."

That is the part of the article I like.

That was the general idea of the electoral college. Who the hell would goto PA and Ohio 50 some odd times during an election season when they would only have to goto NY, Cali and Texas.

Got to love the founders. and you have to question anyone who seems to think they know better than the founders on what type of government we need set up. There is a reason we have checks and balances after all. So why not just rip them all out and somehow we will remain a free nation.

On a side note, maybe we should start the Pennsylvanians against stupid ideas group. First on the agenda will be preventing Kerry from being elected. how stupid an idea is that. lol
